i think they shoud have taken the truck it was mounted on outside and opened the the gas on the engine..

Having worked around prop driven aircraft for most of my life, I can tell you that his close proximity to the prop is not that close, especially when the engine is idling like that one is. It is quite common walk even closer to the spinning prop from behind to check something on the engine. Just don't try that from the front.
