Morning folks, here's the updates I have. Currently, the death toll just in Alabama is 128. That number will rise now that it's daylight and the search and rescue crews can see better and do a more thorough search. The number of injured are at 100 and will rise dramatically as the numbers are added up. There were about 101 confirmed touchdowns and the storm that hit Tuscaloosa, the one that's generating all the video clips on TWC and cnn, is the same one that hit Birmingham and nearly us. That storm, and the outbreak yesterday, will go down in history as one of the worsts. As far as this state, it will be the worst.

The City of Cullman sustained hits by at least 3, maybe 4, different tornadoes over an 18 hour period. The downtown section has brick and mortar buildings that had stood for over 50 years that are nothing but piles of bricks now. Many others are so damaged they will have to be demolished.

I went to a community last night called Smithfield Estates in north Birmingham to assist the rescue efforts. We were cutting a path into the neighborhood to help get folks out. We managed to walk about 35 out. They were probably one of the hardest hit in Jefferson County.

I'm told that the long track storm that came through here had been on the ground for 218 miles, a new record and reached 1 mile in width at times.

I'm out, have to repair wires I tore loose on the trailer last night then man a saw. I'll touch base later. Y'all be safe.

Scary stuff. The intensity and number of storms and tornadoes is staggering.
I cannot imagine getting hit by one let alone 3 or 4 in the same 18 hours.

I ALTURD the POO, I mean PH00o and took the Sealgons or are they Drageals out for their walk. I did not expect them to fly. 37 Drageals sure can move fast, even with me hanging on.
These new creatures love eating old Depends. This might work out for us.
Lately, Bobby and Stan have been leaving their stuff on the floor.

Back to the grind for a few hours and then I have to meet my wife and daughter at the doctors. Daughter injured her legg on the trampoline...twice over Easter. She appeared to be getting better and we thought she just twisted it good but she is walking with the toes pointed outwards and cannot do the stairs or ride her bike. I have a retired nurse as an mother in-law and she is adamant that we get the legg checked asap.

You heard about that? Well, one of the kids was Brian's little girl and one of the adults was his wife. (Brian from the landscape company) They'll both be ok but it was quite the experience. The man who was hit directly is expected to survive/recover. He died at the point of impact and they brought him back with CPR.

Don't count on that Heidi!~ Worcester Mass is every bit as hilly as where you live, if not more so, and they had a tornado not all that long ago that killed quite a few people and destroyed half the city. Tim could probably tell you more about it as I'm sure he was there. It's not that far from where he is stationed.

Yesterday had the most tornados on the ground EVER in the history books according to the weather channel.

Take care of yourself Rick, be careful and stay safe. You have more weather coming I think.

Morning.

It's Thursday, April 28th.

On this day in 1788 - Maryland became the seventh state to ratify the U.S. constitution.

1789 - A mutiny on the British ship Bounty took place when a rebel crew took the ship and set sail to Pitcairn Island. The mutineers left Captain W. Bligh and 18 sailors adrift.

1818 - U.S. President James Monroe proclaimed naval disarmament on the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain.

1914 - W.H. Carrier patented the design of his air conditioner.

1952 - The U.S. occupation of Japan officially ended when a treaty with the U.S. and 47 other countries went into effect.

1953 - French troops evacuated northern Laos.

1965 - The U.S. Army and Marines invaded the Dominican Republic to evacuate Americans.

1967 - Muhammad Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army and was stripped of boxing title. He sited religious grounds for his refusal.

1974 - The last Americans were evacuated from Saigon.

1988 - In Maui, HI, one flight attendant was killed when the fuselage of a Boeing 737 ripped open in mid-flight.

1989 - Mobil announced that they were divesting from South Africa because congressional restrictions were too costly.

1997 - A worldwide treaty to ban chemical weapons took effect. Russia and other countries such as Iraq and North Korea did not sign.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If white wine goes with fish, do white grapes go with sushi?

is ready. I'm reluctant to make ph00 for someone who doesn't want me to visit unless I stay in the barn with the cows, but I'll do it.

I never thought that Brian and/or his family would be out there. I'm glad everyone is ok.

Current AL count is at 131, probably more as the day progresses.

Mornin' Davey.

Afternooner all!

No weather report from up here today. It'd look too much like one from Stan and most of you have some real weather issues to deal with right now. Prayers are sent from the north for all of you.

I'm supposed to work tonight but Mama wants me home. She's only got three weeks before she pops so I'll cave in a bit and stay home.

Gotta get the kiddlets from school......

Wowwee - - I sure hope all our members are OK. The stats on the storms are horrible. The dead and missing numbers are really adding up. Tornadoes are just nasty things - - hate them. Take a hurricane any day.

Hey Marc, glad weather is coming around for you. We have to welcome Heidi with something that won't make her turn around at TOK.

Off to relax for the night - - ya'll sleep tight.

Evenin' all,

Nice day in Cypress, mild 80's temps, blue sky, sunshine and the no wind.

Fronty thanks for checking in with an update. We were missed in the Gulf Coast by the sever storms. We could use rain with the wild fires and the power outages because of the salt and chemicals on the transformers that have not be washed by the rains. They have to be pressure washed.

Picked up the grand kiddlets and brung them to our house so their mom could get a little rest and get some work work done,

Our daughter in in Texas with friends. One of them moved to Burton TX for work and daughter drove u-haul. They were going to tour Blue Bell Ice Cream factory today. Might see her tomorrow.

Oldest son flying in tomorrow. The 2 kids will be here for nephews memorial service on Saturday. Son flies out on Sat. nite, daughter and her friend fly out Sunday. Prudent Student is working hard to get ahead on homework so she can spend much time with the kids.

I read Wanabe's and 5erBobs post and I get tired just thinking about all the work. Flying a steel kite, like to see that.

Got stuff to get reddy for company. Like hide stuff and kick the big chunks off the kitchen floor.

Have a good un and be safe out there.

Davey

They're all safe. Stepson is not happy with me though. I mentioned I might bring the welder over if the power outage was just going to be overnight. The area all around him sustained a direct hit, power will be out for at least a week. He just doesn't understand why I won't leave a $3500.00 welder sit outside while he's gone to work.

Maybe in 2 or 3 days, don't know what to expect yet. It's still too far out.

Evening all. I've been out working trees and fixing stupid all day, I'm tired. I'll share the little bit of new info I have. The numbers I've seen are 204 dead in Alabama, 294 in the whole outbreak. Number of confirmed tornadoes, 161. Number of injured, 1700 plus. The National Guard has 1400 folks mobilized at this time.

I was in Warrior today, about 20 miles north of B'ham on I65. There's allot of damage there, trees on structures but not the total devastation of a direct hit. I was also in Cahaba Heights, again major tree damage. I really want to shoot some pics but I just can't remember to right now. FWIW, I passed by near where my stepson lives. I clocked the width of the storm as I traveled up the interstate. In his area, the tornado was around 3/4 of a mile wide. A storm that big doesn't have to wiggle just a little and allot of things can change. Better make sure you're right with your maker!
