Re:Okanagan Mountain and Kelowna Fire pics
there are currently 850 some fires burning in B.C.
there are some very nice photographs that document this tragedy on that page, well worth the wait if you are on dialup.

KELOWNA, B.C. (CP) - An estimated 203 homes have been torched as a relentless wildfire advanced into the southern suburbs of this Okanagan city. "Last night was probably the roughest night in Kelowna firefighting history I would say,"

That's a lot of fire. What's the temp/humidity been like for the last couple weeks?
Montana had a bunch of fires going as well, they got some rain/increased humidity and it sounds like it helped quite a bit.
We're looking at a potential for the same thing in So. Cal, up to 50% die off in the local forests. Thousands of homes up there. We're basically waiting for the shoe to drop.
We had one in our area this weekend, went from 10 acres to 100 in less than 1/2 hour. Ten homes threatened immediately and another 100 if it jumped the road. They hit it with about 30 engines, four or five hand crews, three helicopters and two fixed wing. Once the Sky Crane showed up it was all over. Stopped it a 200 acres and started cutting equipment loose about 6-7 hours after it started. Didn't get no love though, my engine was out of service until about two hours after it started
Best of luck to our Northern brethren, scary not to see an end to it after 2 weeks. Looks like y'all are seeing the results of poor forest management just like we are.....
