NTSB recommends "Black boxes" for all vehicles made in the USA!!
I saw this headline on Fox news, What does everyone think? Me, I'm very opposed. My father-out-law thinks it is a great idea, but he drives a Chevy 1/2T gasser , so we know what his opinion is worth.

In terms of accident reconstruction and so on and so forth in a kind benevolent lawyerless Utopian society, etc. etc., yeah it makes sense.
Now back to reality - way toooo much Big Brother in the idea.

You talking about the GPS Boxes that would tax people by the mile driven instead of gallon burned? I really love the idea- only because half the time I'd have a 3-in layer of lead over the darn transmitter so they wouldn't think I was going anywhere.
I could probably make money selling the lead sheets, too.

The insurance companies would like a Data Recorder like aircraft use to be able to download parameters preceding an collision.
Ya know little stuff like "he was running at 8,000 rpm and 100+MPH when the vehicle went airborn and impacted a tree 8 feet off the ground".........
It would make for more entertaining entries in the Darwin Awards forums.

i already wrote to dodge and told them what i thought of it. I'm sure they didn't like it. I know they have been put in most new vehicles for some time now as a so called "safety feature" that's a bunch of crap. Today's world is all about information gathering on the locals. I mean i went to cash a rebate check for 20.00 today and because i didn't update my address when i moved I had to give a fingerprint, and then they asked where i worked and when i was paid. Even though it wasn't a payroll check. It's just another long line of big bussiness/ big brother using and abusing sources to find out your tendencies, habits, your routine. Then finding some way to implement a plan to make more money off of you. I told dodge they had some nerve and that i would never buy one again for that reason. I've owned 2 in the last 2 years. I asked them if they thought this was such a safe idea and such a good idea why did they choose to hide it from their consumers. I called this guy who was the president of north american operations, lol. I knew he didn't care a bit. His message was like pertaining to someone interested in commercials for the up coming superbowl. I told him that if i didn't hear from him right away I would call back his cell phone and his office phone every 15 min. until he was sick of it. It is to my understanding that U can't even go to the dealer and have them undo it, they are not even schooled well enough, i was told it takes a daimler chrysler engineer. I don't know if that's a line or what. I don't agree with it though and i think it's pathetic, every day more and more of our last few freedoms slip right past us. What is sick is that i know for a fact a lot of folks voted the patriot act in, I sat back and said a lot of folks are gonna wish they wouldn't have acted so hastily. Point being it's not a safety feature, u know why, it's not for u to be aware of it until they use it to lock your butt up. i mean vehicles and companies promote safety and they use it as their marketing strategy, like when saturn came out remember that. I am aware of all my other safety features that they offer. How does the line go "standard dual side air bags" i think that's the first line of the safety presentation that is brought to you by any company you go try to buy from. Just look at the commercials. they follow that up with "rear anti lock brakes". Oh yeah and finally the box that monitors your every move to lock u up in case of some unfortunate act. I mean it's a continuous loop for about what 5 seconds, for now. How long until they put microphones in them to record conversations. or use them to automatically give you speeding tickets or whatever. who's to say they can't already? Makes me sick this world would be a better place if people just took care of them and their own and stopped worrying about what everyone else is doing. All the money to design this system, take it and feed homeless folks, or educate the less fortunate, or take care of our veterans for christs sake. I mean it's bad enough there is a camera at almost every intersection. Now they want the rig to snitch me out too
that's weak

I guess the big fear here is that the information would be used to convict a driver in the event of an accident.
your out with the fellows doing smoke shows, and showing the ford folks how the dodges perform, get a little heavy on the go peddle and dent another drivers car....
flip side: one of the fellows out doing smoke shows and showing the ford folks how the dodges perform, gets a little heavy on the go peddle and slices through your chevy sprint killing your wife and two young kids.
in the first case you wouldn't want it and in the second you would.....
