Also don't weld too long while wearing jeans and a t-shirt, you will get a intresting tan line.
The UV goes through light clothing, get a leather welding cape.
A couple of times I had been welding when I felt something warm, I looked down and part of my pant leg was on fire.

I couldn't agree more. It is amazing how fast you can get a "weld" burn on your arms if you are wearing short sleeves. I have had some pretty good burns on the inside of my elbows. You would think I would learn

You can buy some rods in different sizes. We use 7018 in 1/8 ans 3/16. The thin one will work with a little less heat. What you want for thin sheet metal body. It will be a royal pain if there is any rust. It just makes your base metal that much thinner.

One time I was Air Arcing a apring hanger off a trailer and was wearing cotton coverall over my clothes. (It was the middle of winter) They were slightly large and made a shlef between my legs when I was kneeled down. After a few minutes it started getting warmer and I felt a flash of heat under the hood. I stopped and looked (I've lit myself on fire a lot) around and discovered my crotch covered in flames. I tenderly beat the fire out as fast as I could. I wish I someone had been there to get it on tape. Since then I allways make sure I pull the waist up when I kneel. And all ways wear pants under them.

WELDERS: The only people that think a coworker catching on fire is funny!

I'm gonna be signing up for some welding classes in Sept hopefully. I took some in AZ and loved it. Gonna try again up in OR, hopefully finish up and snag a welder up here before I end up in FL

Please be sure you are well ventilated and use the proper equipment.
I welded some galvanize steel one time and it messed my head for awhile and I tasted it for a week.

Be careful. Jim.
