Not sure this belongs here, but, Trip to dealership

Friend saw a 2000 2500 for sale and asked if the wifey and I would go look at it for her, test drive and see what we think of it. The specs are that of a 2000 2500 quad cab, SLT, 5.9 Gasser, Long Bed, 2WD. Very clean truck. They were asking $17,000.

Fun begins, wife and I walk up to the truck, first thing i noticed, new bedliner, looked underneath and the bed was in horrible shape. Salesman walks over, over reaches pass the wife to me to shake hands and say hi to me, big mistake on his part (she got the money, lol). Goes and gets the keys, i looked it all over, clean underneath, clean paint, no scratches. He opens it up, torn drivers seat, no big deal, pops the hood. Its a lil dirty, not too bad. I had him start it up, he turns the key, starts cranking, starts, immediately i heard a vacuum leak i think from somewhere. Got in, started to drive it, pulled to the right, braked terribly, accelerated sluggishly and had a terrible rattle noise from mid way underneath the truck.

Pulled back into the dealership, opened the doors up, gave it gas up to bout 5k rpms, starts missing, coughing black smoke. I turned it off. Tryed to turn it back on, crank, crank, dies, no juice from battery. Salesman says, oh, we just replaced the battery in it, hmm, wonder whats wrong. Turned it on, turned on A/C, no cold air at all. And they want $17,000, i was like hun, no way, it needs like 5,000 bucks of work, and then i would might pay 10k for it.

sorry for the blabbing.

Sounds like someone tried to pretty it up just to get rid of it.

That's probably the same truck a friend of mine looked at a while back in this area. As soon as he opened up the door, out came that musty moldy smell. He shut the door immediately and walked off the lot right past the salesman. Did a Vin search later and found the truck had been in a flood somewhere further south. It had been totalled but yet here it was on a lot cleaned up and ready to sell.
Gives new meaning to the term "BUYER BEWARE".
