I was listening to the Lee Davis show yesterday when he interviewed a lady from Merry Christmas Billboards. She and her friends were offended by what they refer to as the "HH" word (Happy Holidays) to the point that they decided to do something about it. They got together and rented a bill board. The story goes on and their movement is growing. This year they've got 15. Here's the link, enjoy.

This week, I found out. From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.
1. The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
2. Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
3. Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
4. The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
5. The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
6. The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
7. Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
8. The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
9. Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
10. The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.
11. The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
12. The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.
So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.

I recently encountered the politically correct issues at work.
I had the fun task of getting the events board updated. So I put Merry Christmas to all and Seasons Greetings. I was asked to remove the Merry Christmas part because a few folks at the main office will take offence.
I took the board down and now it has Merry Christmas at the top and the bottom of the schedule. I am entitled to my Beliefs just as much as anyone else and its time that the naysayers started looking elsewhere for what they want.

You know, those that segregate out the Merry Christmas, are incouraging ethnic division, instead of ethnic diversity. By displaying the Christmas decorations, you are inviting the others in to participate and experince the diversity. If they want to display the other holiday traditional greetings, that's fine, but don't ban one to replace it with the other and feed us a line of equality. If I want to say Merry Christmas, I have no problem with a (cheerful) reply of Happy Kwansa or something. But I defended both my right to say Merry Christmas and other right to their greeting. You want to get rid of Christmas greetings, be prepared to lose Hannuka, Kwansa, etc., and keep encouraging the ethnic groups to stay at odds with each other.....
