Nightshift- Front and center!
So who all's on the swingshift these days? I just started this weekend. Got bumped on a realignment, haven't been stuck here in probably 6 years.
Haven't heard from Chris lately, they take the computer away again?

Well good morning... been doing the swing for over 18yrs ( minus a VERY short 1.5 yr straight days stint ). I do one turn of 3rds a month, not bad, just have to remember to get your sleep when you can. Helped a neighbor bale straw today, so I am pretty durned tired right now.

I'm working 11pm to 9:30am. Not so much swings but graveyards. Been working this schedule for about 2 months can't wait to get back to days, or even swings.

We're mixed 8's and 12's and a 4. Generaly on this new schedule, I'll start at either 7 or 11 and get out at 7a. It was the only way to get an extended to work at current staffing numbers, that complied with some new federal law. The job was created before there was 911, so we're still coded as clerical by the state as oppose to emergency. Being that the state doesn't consider us "emergency" just yet, we can't get the new exemption required for emergency responders to work 80 hour pay periods instead of a 40 hour period. Straight 12's would make them pay us overtime on 46 hours the first week and loss time for a 36 hour week on the next. For the 4 hour day, we just cut the day in half on one of the 8's in a week and added for to the other 8 for 3, 12's and a 4. Same number of trips into work, but it gives us better coverage during peak time. This is SUPPOSE to be temporary as we're suppose to have some new hiree's in a couple months, some building remodeling, and hopefully a coding change before long.

My rotation start is Sat Sun 7a to 7p then Mon thru Friday 7a to 3p, then next week its Mon thru Friday 3p to 11p, following week its mon@11p to 7a, same thru Sat morning, then sat and sunday 7p to 7a, when I get off work on Monday am I dont go back untill Sat am to start the rotation over again.
kthiemann I would NOT consider it a win if stuck on straight seconds, I never get any sleep on seconds and still miss everything the kids are doing that week. Only thing worse is the 12 hr weekend work.

I work 2nd. 3 to 11 paid lunch. 3-1 overtime schedule. I love it. The drive home, 26 miles is so easy and peacefull. I can go 40-60 as I please. See a few deer and foxes. the drive in is a pain but it moves right along.

Duane, this one wasn't really a win.....the last pick I was in hospital so I didn't get to pick my shift and got drafted...didn't even find out until I was working on all the stuff to get my medical clearance to go back to work.

7 on 7 off starts on Thursdays. Week of days (0600-1800), week off, Week of nights (1800-0600), Week off, Start over. Been doing that for 7 years now. I really hate days anymore....

I am usually in here until 2:30am or so. Hard to do that since I start my days here at 9am, but all the old war wounds have a tendency to keep me awake until the wee hours.

Not to hijack, but just to maybe add to the interest, what kind of work do we all do? Hydro generating station operator here.
