BWAHHAHAHAHAHA, Stan, that wasn't very nice!

You made me spit coffee all over my screen!

I wonder what Scotty thinks of the no free weights thing? (Picturing Hoss in a pink thong with Scotty dropping a giant snow ball on him!)

Yipes .....

When I read that he is getting a crossbar max, I imagined that his wife will beat him in shape with it...

Moving it out of the way to get to the snowblower doesn't count as "hitting it".

(My clothes hanger says Honda on it)

My bet is Hoss gives it up before the check for the Crossmaxbarthing clears the bank! Does this thing require assembly? We better start taking up a fund.

Good luck pencil, I mean Hoss.

Seriously though, let us know how that thing works as I have several friends that are not into the gyms or free weights.
Maybe you can become a spokesperson for Weider?
I bet theres a way to put one of those in the bed of your truck!

Day 1 - "Some Assembly Required"

SOME!?!?! Did you just say SOME assembly required? HA!!!

I've discovered that it's not even necessary to have an assembled Crossbar to get a good workout. The cardio workout I got just from carrying all of the stinkin' pieces of this thing into my house had me working up a sweat....and it's 54 degrees outside!!! Holy cow!!! I have a whole new respect for the phrase "Some Assembly Required."

I'll give a full report on the workout it provides on Stinkin' Day 9 after I've managed to piece this beast together!! Too tired to type...

Should have joined the gym. 5erBob could have given you a Speedo outfit for free!
No need. I bought about two dozen XXL DTR thongs back when Lary had them on sale.

You go ahead and work your excess "bone" off. I'm gonna sit here and drink my high calorie beer, eat my high calorie fast food, and sit on my very narrow rear end and not care because I don't gain weight.
Having seen pictures of you I can believe that. I was sincerely concerned for you last week when the temperatures dropped. I was afraid that you would literally freeze and then the wind would blow you over and break you into a million pieces of Little Blue.

Go for it Hoss! I for one applaud you in your healthy decision...

Psssssst hey guys more donuts for the rest of us now that Hoss is on a health kick

Let's see that was 4 bear claws at breakfast plus the 2 maple bars he ate at lunch should just about make up for the new members we have joining us now for breakfast
I should have clarified that the term "health kick" does not in any way, shape or form mean "diet".

Coooool, now Hoss has a "Clothes Hanger" just like mine........
I've been hitting the machine a little myself as well as the freeweights.
Getting a little too much "Ballast" for my own good.

Good luck with it Hoss.
Clothes hanger? My wife would tell you that I don't have a clue what a clothes hanger is.

how constant is the resisting force on those? i always wondered if the spring rate kept making it harder and harder or they designed it to give close to constant force...
Weider CLAIMS that the bars provide a consistant resistance throughout the full range of motion. I kind of have doubts about that, but that's what they claim.

Um, can we see some "befores" so we can gauge the progress?

That way we'll know how accurate all of those infomercials are we see on T.V.

I'll post pics right along with you, with only free weights and a one cable set up.
How about I spare you the agony of those pictures and just provide updates on my progress.

Wait a minute maybe that an’t such a good thing, how much are those things anyway
Retail is $599 but if you look around you can get them MUCH cheaper. I never pay retail for anything.

Before: Hoss - thong. You newbies missed that nightmare. But in spite of the nightmares that conjures up, the before picture should be Hoss in his thong - frontal, side and rear views.
As I said, I'll spare my friends on DTR the agony of seeing those pictures. Besides, there are a couple of guys on this forum that might be tempted to just hold onto those pictures with some less than honorable intentions....but I won't mention any names.

Awww. Thanks for the worry Hoss. There was one point that I was about frozen solid. I think it was when I was scraping the ice off of my windows in 15-20mph wind with the temperatures somewhere in the upper teens. I knew I should have taken that ice scraper mom offered last time I was home.

When I made the comment that she was welcome to use it anytime I really thought she might. Apparently she didn't quite take that the way I meant it.

I'll keep you updated. I got it for much of the same reasons. I wanted the convenience of being able to work out at home. That eliminated a lot of free weights for a couple of reasons....1) Money to buy all of the weights, and 2) Lack of a spotter. I went with this one because it doesn't have a fixed range of motion. If you're doing a bench press you have to control the handles in EVERY direction, not just one like you would on a normal weight machine. Not only that, but it came with 240 pounds of resistance and can be upgraded to 440 pounds of resistance. The Bowflex and most stack weight machines come with 210 pounds of resistance. I think the Bowflex will upgrade to 410 or so, but most weight machines cannot be upgraded (stack weights...not free weights).

Neither can I, and I'm disturbed by the fact that Hoss would even consider it in the first place!

So Hoss, with that said, why don't you just send them pics to me and I'll make SURE they get destroyed! Trust me!

Hehehehe ... I remember my old Joe Weider 101 position, do-it-all, body sculpting machine. I scooted that stupid thing all over the garage trying to make room for the jeep, the vette, the Dodge, the harley , the kids stuff, the wifes stuff .... Sure did give me quite a work out. Never did use it like the guy on tv showed .

Good luck with the work out program .... keep at it and you will be surprised how good you feel. Also ... be sure to add plenty of core training to your routine. Kinda painful to begin with but sure does help later on.
