New riddle
Three men go to a cheap motel, and the desk clerk charges them a sum of $30.00 for the night. The three of them split the cost ten dollars each. Later the manager comes over and tells the desk clerk that he overcharged the men, since the actual cost should have been $25.00. The manager gives the bellboy $5.00 and tells him to give it to the men. The bellboy, however, decides to cheat the men and pockets $2.00, giving each of the men only one dollar.

Now each man has paid $9.00 to stay for the night, and 3 x $9.00 = $27.00. The bellboy has pocketed $2.00. But $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00. Where is the missing $1.00?
Re:New riddle
well, if you 3 guys, they paid $30, manager gives bellboy $5 to return, bellboy takes $2 and gives back $3, lets see this in a chart:

total paid: $30/3 people = $10/person
refund: $5-$2 for bellboy = $3 to each person
now: $30-$5 = $25, $25/3people = $8.33
now: give each person a dollar and that equals $9.33
now: multiply that by three and you get $28.
now: Bellboy keeps $2.

They get cheated and the boy has a guilty concious (maybe)
little rat.

this might be right, not sure.

Re:New riddle
Go the opposite way:

The original $30 charged for the room minus the $5 overcharge works out like this:

Original $30
Minus 2 (in the bellboy's pocket)
Equals $28
Minus 3 ($1 for each traveler)
Equals $25
