Exclamation New Pet Food Recall

Sunshine Mills in North Alabama has announced a recall of certain pet foods and treats. Because of the ongoing investigation into tainted pet foods a prohibited ingredient was found in their foods. Here is the link to the press release on their web site. http://www.sunshinemills.com/press_release.html

Hmm, it seems like every week, it gets to be more and more kinds of dog food. We have pulled most of ours from our shelves, there are a few brands left though.

Pay close attention to your dogs eating habits. Decreased or no appetite and excessive water consumption are warning signs of kidney failure. The same ingredient is in question as with the other recalled food, imported Chinese wheat gluten. Remember also to hang on to your unused product, if it's on the list you'll probably be able to get a refund.

This is bad stuff guys. If you fed your dog this tainted food it can kill them up to a year later! Watch your dog close. If they have eaten any of this stuff get them to a vet even if they don't show signs of being sick right now. At least call your vet and ask what to do.

I'm confused by something, if the ingredient used in these food products is banned by the FDA in the US, why wouldn't the pet food manufacturers test the raw ingredients before combining them together to make the pet food. It almost, no it does seem criminal.

What gets me is the melamine that they found. Melamine for those of you that don't know is what they use to make the white coating on the inside of cabinets. How the heck did that end up in wheat gluten?

Didn't they go through this a few years ago? At least with Ol' Roy.

Because most pet food companies are just trying to make as much profit as possible. Yes, it does seem criminal. Personally, we don't feed our animals anything you can buy at the grocery store, Walmart or Petsmart. Check out http://www.petextras.com/10petfoodsec.html for a little info about dog food. At least the 10 secrets and the 5 more secrets.

think he meant all grocery stores including walmart and petsmart he avoids for dog food..

Ive had good luck with Science Diet..

I would figure if its "what the vets feed their pets" they would know about a food problem before anyone else! LOL

The store food is awfully tempting walking past it though... $10 for a 50lb bag.. when im currently shellin out a bout $40 for a 40lb bag.

I don't know any vets that feed their own dogs science diet. It has so many preservatives in it that it has a long shelf life and they get a huge kickback for selling it. And science diet IS on the recall list.

Unhappy Poor People Feed Ol' Roy

I read all the information and am still unsure.

All our Border Collies will eat is Ol' Roy.

A few times, we have tried such stuff as Gravy Train, Purina, and Kibbles and Bits; but, they won't hardly touch that stuff, because it doesn't say Ol' Roy on the sack.

Is all types of Ol' Roy dog-food tainted and suspect; or, are only the few listed dog-bisquits on the bad list??

I just opened a new sack of Ol' Roy Multi-Flavored Dog Bisquits.

As best I could tell, they were not on the list.

Maybe I should start scraping possums off the road and feed them that, until this scare blows over.
