New Personal Best - Boar Hog
I shot this Boar last night @ 7:00. My wife and I were taking the horses for a nice eveing exercise, when I saw a heard of about 25 running across the pasture. I always carry my rifle in a scabbard, so I was ready.
As the heard reached the woods, I noticed something large under a pecan tree some 500 yds off. At first I thought it was a cow laying down in the thigh high weeds, but as we drew closer I proved myself wrong. @ 200yds, I dismounted and took a good rest against a pecan tree. I could tell that it was a hog when I saw him wagging his tail. This dude was huge! I really couldnt get a good rest where I was, so I decided to try and get closer. There was another tree I could sneak over to that would put me right @ 100yds. So I chanced it, and snook over to it. I took rest on this tree, and placed my shot. I put the bullet right between his shoulders, and he dropped never to move again.
I then called my brother to bring his truck out to load him up. Along with my rifle, I always carry a rope. So I climbed the tree that this brute was grazing under, and put my rope around a nice 6" diamter limb. I used my horse to pull this hog high enough to clear the tailgate of the truck, then let him down slowly into the bed as my brother backed up.
I have been trying to kill a big boar with teeth like this for almost 13 years now. This guy is definetly going on my wall. I would appreciate any good references to a reputable taxidermist. This one means allot to me.

The big scales were at my dads work, and we didnt feel like going to get them. These things will fool you sometimes, and weigh more than you think. I would say he is a minimum 350 lb, but no more than 400 lb. My brother shot a 400lber last fall, and this one was no quite as chunky. I think he had the frame to be 400+, but coming off a dry summer he was a little lighter.
Other than that, he was very healthy, and clean. I pulled his back straps, and hind quarters. My wife makes a mean roast from one of those hind quarters.

i have a buddie that has 8k or so acres sw of waco that we pig hunt on. he has got some big pigs, but none with cutters of any size. i know out west the pigs grow some big cutters. but in his area they just don't need them to survive. the area is 1/2 farm land and the pigs grow big and fat of all the grain and pecans. o yea, nice pig

thats a dandy for sure palmetto..there are bigger ones out there, but few and far between.when it comes to hogs, the majority of the ones people see mounted have had their tusks pulled out.a hog has roughly twice the length of tusk showing running back up in its jaw.if a hog is all natural,3 to 4 inches of tusk showing is a really good one......there are many ranches that doctor their hogs, they catch them when young, use pruning shears to cut off their wetters,so their cutters will continue to grow.they then castrate them so they will put on some serious weight.sows are the ones that usually obtain the monster weights, not boars...does your taxidermist score hogs there?pull tusks, measure entire tusk, and measure circumference at gumline.this is how to score them.texas has the exotics record book ,yours would for sure make book.........maybe i put to much thought into a hog ...........bama
