With the new cans just drill a small hole where the vent SHOULD be and thread in a 1/4 20 bolt, when you go to use it take the bolt out and it will flow alot easier.

Great minds think alike. I have some yellow cans (diesel) that I used metal roofing screws as a vent hole plug.
The roofing screws already have a good diesel compatable gasket on them.
Grinding down two sides of the bolt top makes it so I usually can use just my fingers to remove or replace it.
Still irritates me that we have to create work arounds like that.

May try that with the cans I have at the house. However, on the job site, the wrong OSHA inspector + modified equipment = fine.

That's true. On a couple of my first cans, the plastic spout cracked and leaked. For what I paid for the can, I wasn't going to let it go, so I called the company that makes them. They shipped me 2 brand new valve and spout assemblies at no charge and admitted they had had a problem with them.

I thought those joke cans only existed in Ca. These things make as much sense as E85.

Oh NO!!! Dont get me started on E85.
Than its even worse, having to pour E85 into a chain saw that barly runs on it, from a can that drips fuel everywhere but into the saw.

Bark,
If your old favorite cans are still in good shape there's a company called "rotopax" that sells the old style spouts and vents......

I just bought a metal 5 gallon from Northern Safety. Jobsite I'm on requires metal gas cans, no plastic. Paid $45 for it,

You'll have to look around there. Might say they can't ship to Kalifornia though.

Thanks. Went to their web site. $12 bucks for the repair kit isnt bad since you cant get em anywhere else.
Still irritating though because the price of a whole can was 7-8 buck until they went to the built in vents.

Totally agree about these stupid new gas cans and the even worse spout. Needed two new cans last year and tried many different places in Texas to buy the old style. Nobody had any, so was forced to buy the new version. These things are a real They make more mess than anything, plus take forever to pour. Your government at work - using your tax dollars to improve things.

Dang Stan. I was hoping you might have found some of the older style cans in the south. Like

My new can that I had to buy for my chain saw fuel drives me nuts. It rained and the stupid spout had filled with water and some strange dead bug.
Wound up having to waste more fuel than it normally wastes to flush it clean.
Than I got to drip and drizzle fuel all over the saw to fill it.
