FiverBob,

that's how ya tell the snowbirds- no coats in December/January. Floridians are dressed in fashionable Land's End all weather gear in teal and pink.
start counting plastic flamingoes now.....)seriously, best of all situations to ya Shorts)

jeep home, neighbor won't take gas money. oh well, told him to call me when he knows what he would like...

mowed lawn, moved cast iron antique stove, moved concrete blocks again, set skids down for separate area for pine/ash/cherry, fixed a drain, glued pipes, caulked anything that stood still....looked at wood on trailer and ignored off loading it. went in house for turkey slices n gravy, mashed taters and sweet fresh peas. not planning on answering any phone calls.....ahhhh

hope y'all have the same relaxing weekend!!!!

Afternoon peeps. Not good news on the Intrepid, power steering is still in the crapper. Changed the pump and the reservoir because that's where the screen is. No external leaks on the rack. I'm at a loss. Cut the grass and started weed eating, string broke and I can't find the spare. Time for a break.

You got it. All my warm gear stays packed in the fiver - - that is the only time I am in cold(er) weather unless we fly somewhere. Good sweatshirt for a cool morning, a light all weather jacket for windy and rainy weather, jeans and I have a few long sleeve shirts. I think I might still have two flannel shirts from Newfoundland (it was really cold up there in the summer we were there). Down here, most of the winter is shorts, short sleeve shirt, tennees or my Keno's. Some evenings might get down to low 30's and bacdk up to 70 the next day. Feb and March are normally the coldest. We go swimming in December and January.

Our AC is a reverse cycle if needed. We may run it 6 - 10 nights per year. Cooler mornings, we use a small ceramic heater in the family room/kitchen. Takes the chill off and we open up about noon and let the 70 degree breezes blow thru. My son is in Jacksonville - - gets a little colder there but he has the same setup. The AC/heat hardly runs at all in the winter - - mostly that little ceramic heater. Our AC does have a heat strip backup for if you want ot bring up the temp a little quicker in the morning, but we never run the heat at night. Reverse cycle will not work below about 40 degrees. But even on a 30 degree night, the house will still be 55 or so in the morning with no heat on at all. Yummy. Just right.

Rick - - - sounds like me. I quit today - - couldn't seem to get anything working right. Worked about 4 hours in the yard and got about 1 hour of work completed. Duh. Could be my attitude, too - - just hurting with this dumb LEGG. Try again tomorry - - see what happens. Ok Bob, stay positive, all is going to be wonderful. YES SIR. ...............

I hear ya Bob. I've been wrestling this thing for a couple weeks, time to put it aside for a couple days. I'll make the wife happy tomorrow and spend some time working on the yard. New weed eater string is in the truck. This fall I'll cut the crape myrtles back to about 12' tall. They were transplants and I let them grow as they wanted for 3 or 4 years. Time to bring them in line. Good luck to you tomorrow!

We finally had a sunny day!!! I didn't finish anything but it sure was nice to be dry while I did it. Amazing how out of shape you can get from not doing anything for a week or two.

Mornin' people. Rise n' shine, it's the weekend! Get something done today!

It's Saturday, August 24th.

1456 - The printing of the Gutenberg Bible was completed.

1572 - The Catholics began their slaughter of the French Protestants in Paris. The killings claimed about 70,000 people.

1814 - Washington, DC, was invaded by British forces that set fire to the White House and Capitol.

1912 - A four-pound limit was set for parcels sent through the U.S. Post Office mail system.

1932 - Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the U.S. non-stop. The trip from Los Angeles, CA to Newark, NJ, took about 19 hours.

1949 - The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) went into effect. The agreement was that an attack against one of the parties would be considered "an attack against them all."

1954 - The Communist Party was virtually outlawed in the U.S. when the Communist Control Act went into effect.

1968 - France became the 5th thermonuclear power when they exploded a hydrogen bomb in the South Pacific.

1986 - Frontier Airlines shut down. Thousands of people were left stranded.

1989 - The U.S. space probe, Voyager 2, sent back photographs of Neptune.

1995 - Microsoft's "Windows 95" went on sale.

1998 - U.S. officials cited a soil sample as part of the evidence that a Sudan plant was producing precursors to the VX nerve gas. And, therefore made it a target for U.S. missiles on August 20, 1998.

1998 - A donation of 24 beads was made, from three parties, to the Indian Museum of North America at the Crazy Horse Memorial. The beads are said to be those that were used in 1626 to buy Manhattan from the Indians.

2001 - The remains of nine American servicemen killed in the Korean War were returned to the U.S. The bodies were found about 60 miles north of Pyongyang. It was estimated that it would be a year before the identies of the soldiers would be known.

2005 - The planet Pluto was reclassified as a "dwarf planet" by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Pluto's status was changed due to the IAU's new rules for an object qualifying as a planet. Pluto met two of the three rules because it orbits the sun and is large enough to assume a nearly round shape. However, since Pluto has an oblong orbit and overlaps the orbit of Neptune it disqualified Pluto as a planet.

Today's thought:
The average person has three to five best friends, and usually hates one person in their social group.

Coffee and ph00 are ready.

Morning yall. Hope the weekend is restful.

Trad - boat ramp. Also on the weedeater string I went to using the easy load head where you just slip in a 10" piece at a time. And I use the best line that comes in one piece and snip off a piece as I need. It is a triangle shaped string (and bright yellow) with ribbed teeth on one edge. This string is tough. I'm never going back to the cheap stuff again. And this good string is only $5 more.

Bob, I can surely make due with that kind of weather pattern. I am skeptical about the swimming in Dec/Jan. But I sure would like to be a believer. What kind of water temps are yall looking at, both pool and beach?

JWBM, to unload the trailer, drive in reverse and suddenly slam on the brakes. Watch as the load gently slides out the back into a nice unloaded pile on the ground

Pluto will always be a planet in my book. I still refuse to believe it is not

Good morning all y'all. Just a quick driveby this morning. My farming trainer / mentor Louie is on his way. We are going to be rolling up old smooth fence wire today. NE - do you want to come help??

It looks to be a beautiful day here today. Temps will be in the high 80's with a gentle breeze. The only danger is the possibility of thunder storms this afternoon and evening. As has been the case all summer, we can deal with the wind and rain but PLEASE no hail. DW's garden is at optimum output right now. I took about 60 lbs of zuke, carrots, peas and beans to work yesterday and gave them to the people I work with. They folks that get in early are mostly single ladies, in their late 20's and early 30's who are in their first serious jobs and struggling to pay rent etc on their first apartments. Man, did those ladies go nuts for free, fresh produce. Truth be know, we even meet the criteria for organic produce but since we don't sell anything, there is no point going through the hassle and expense of getting certified as organic.

Play safe everyone. I have never used a fence wire roller before so Louie is working with me today to ensure I have all my appendages at the end of the day. He said that if you don't pay attention and follow proper safety rules, these things can be a little dangerous. I will post an update this evening.

Wow, afternoon all ready - - been out running around shopping for materials to work with. Rain is rolling in all ready - - must be August.

The east coast (hard side - LOL) is somewhat different than the west side (soft side). We are more temperate - - lower highs and higher lows, especially along the coastline. Gulf temps right now are in the low 80's. In the winter it can get down to high 50's. Pool is 81 yesterday and will get down to 50 in Feb/March if I don't turn on the heater (do not have solar in this house - - did in the last one). Our Seattle son thinks it is hot in March in the pool. Water temps on the east side will always be colder than ours, air temps higher when hot and colder when cold.

News from Seattle was good - - all is on schedule - - her personality has not changed much - - still freaky at times, crying at others, then gets sweet and want cuddling. Amazing at the swings even as were are talking on the phone she talks to us a minute, then hollers I don't want to talk to you and leaves muttering. Wild. Sure hope these nexts months pass smoothly. Keep on praying for them - - they sure need it just to stay sane. Tough.

Off to lunch and get to work. Slowly that list is getting shorter. Gotta knock off two more lines on it yet today.

Bob

I just cant imagine what the kid is going through. Bad enough without having to take meds that screw up your thoughts and emotions.

That not right. At least two people in my group hate me.

Never used a hydraulic one since even the manual ones can give you a scar.

Good evening all y'all,
I have come to a decision, I never want to be a real farmer, they work too darn hard. Louie is 84 and I am 44. He outworked me today, I am DONE. That was bloody hard work. Rolling the fence wire is easy but the wire we were rolling is on broken down fences and lots of it has been on the ground and/or in tangles for 5 or 6 years. Getting it out of the grass on the ground and untangled was very unfun.

Dinner should be awesome. Steak, veggies and the first corn on the cob of the year, DW picked it about 20 minutes ago. You can't get fresher than that.

Have a fun evening.

I assume that is a invite but I don't have your address. Me hungry. I agree about farming - -it is tough. But, see, here in the states many of the farmers have figured out they don't have to work. In fact, they aren't farmers at all -- they just have a farm - - but they don't work it and are paid by the government for NOT working it. Don't even have to worry about the rain, floods, drought, bugs, lousy market price - - just don't plant and get paid for it. Lots of our congress people own farms they never go near. Oh boy, here I go again.

Got some work done today plus necessary running. One more day and I am done on the lanai. Guess I better get the camera out and make that janitor be quiet about pictures.

Are you sure it's only been a week or two?

I've already run that suggestion up the flag pole. I got some name brand stuff from Home Depot. They really didn't have much of a selection and this stuff isn't worth a crap.

Hi I posted in the help section. I'm stuck in Hudson Wi with yet another failed AirDog lift pump. Anyone know someone in this area (minneapolis) that could help me find a pump?
