Morning JWBM and you sleepy heads who haven't checked in yet.

Had a lot going on since the end of the week. Picked up a stranger from the airport. DH is finally home. For the weekend we were visiting, eating, socializing etc. That stuff is tiring!

As I hinted at, we will be moving to Ft Lauderdale area Florida soon. Crazy soon. Started on Monday we have been calling movers, general contractors, fence guys, rental management co.s. I was suppose to have jury duty this morning but I got an email from the curt saying I wasn't needed and didn't need to report. Woohoo!! Needless to say, we are hectic around here.

Tallguy, we went and got snow cones yesterday before I got started on fajitas. I got strawberry daiquiri and added a spritz of Sailor Jerry. I gotta do that more often

Anyway, today we got a contractor coming this afternoon. This morning we might go look at flooring and cabinets. Yayy...ehh

Yall be good and have fun doing "stuff"

Good morning all y'all, salutations from sunny Calgary. As I look out my window I see the sun coming up and a perfectly clear sky. It was a little brisk this morning when I left home (41F) but we are supposed to get up to 78F or 79F this afternoon and evening. If I got to write my own weather for the day, this would be just about a perfect day.

It is good to see the usual bizarre discussions have been underway for the last few days. If the legg discussions go on much more, I am going to need some sort of brain bleach. You just can't drink those images out of your head.

I had one of those brain fail moments yesterday. As I mentioned on Sunday and documented in the 2nd gen section, the A/C in my truck wasn't working. I have never owned a vehicle with A/C before so, while I am very familiar with the theory of how refrigeration works, I have had very little practical experience. It turns out that my only problem was that it was low on refrigerant. So, for Sunday and Monday, with the A/C on max, I got 40F degrees of cooling (80F outside, 40F from vent). I hopped into the truck to come home from work yesterday evening and after a few minutes I noticed there was no cooling effect from the A/C. The air coming from the vent was exactly the same temp as the outside air (I have a thermometer in the vent so I know the actual temp of the HVAC air). Well, after I said 'Gosh, golly and fiddlesticks' I assumed the system had a refrigerant leak. I was puzzled how it could hold a full charge for 48 hours and then all of a sudden lose all refrigerant charge. A couple of miles later I was sitting at a red light, still muttering epithets I might add, when I happened to do a sweep of the gauges and controls with my eyes. Guess which dummy had the HVAC temp control set to HEAT!!! It was cold and foggy yesterday morning so I had used the defroster and I never thought to turn the heat down when I turned the A/C on. Man, some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Have a good day everyone and hopefully you can get a chuckle out of my A/C woes that are due to personal stupidity.

Shorts - good on you for having an adult snow cone. It is fun mixing little kid and big kid stuff.

Glad to hear DH is back and I hope you are happy about the destination of the move. If you are anything like me, moving itself totally sucks and is a big pain. You just have to hope the destination is worth it.

At the same time, as you are a military family, I would guess that you are used to the moving. DW and I have been in our place since 2001 and just the thought of moving gives me the chills. It would take me 2 days of hard work to clean out the barn/shop before I could even think about packing it.

Like I said, hopefully you are excited about the destination.

TG, I knew folks up north weren't so keen on Central Heating/Air in houses, but I had no idea it spread to vehicles too You won't make that mistake again though lol Glad your AC works.

Regarding moving, I think we've gotten hooked on the excitement and craziness of making a change every few years (we're real messed up lol). While the prep work and actual doing the transition is stressful and tiring, we enjoy the finished result. Right now I haven't thought too much about doing the fun stuff when discovering a new area since all we see is the work. But that should change once we get details finalized. Then all we have to do is make it to that day. Then it'll be real. There's a lot to do out there. I am looking forward to living on the coast again. I've always lived on the coast except for here. We'll be renting a house and we're getting one with a pool. I am going to be so brown

Yesterday I started cleaning up my leather workroom. I was in there for hours and when I finally stopped it looked like I hardly did anything The other challenge will be the garage. Considering I really like my machines and tools, I don't like the idea of strangers in there handling my equipment. Although I don't want to haul an enclosed rental trailer it might come to that, for not just garage stuff, but other items in the house we specify. DH laughed and said we gotta watch out how many times we say "We'll just take that in the truck/car". Before we know it we have more than will fit.

WARNING!!! Be extremely careful of the Florida sun - - closer to the equator - - it can be brutal. You will burn before you realize it. Use lots of goo, especially at first. The dermitologists are very busy here all the time.

Gotta run and make appointments. AGAIN, there was no ph00 or coffee, soooooooo, AGAIN, I took care of it - - hot and fresh at 10am, so come and get it.

TG, don't feel bad. Any day can be a Monday because they all end in "WHY".

Shorts - that particular line made me go 'hmmmmm' but since this is a family site, I won't comment any more than to say I don't like strangers handling my equipment either

As for the A/C thing, some houses up here do have A/C but we really don't need it that often. It is slightly worse in the city than where I am out in the sticks but not much. There are typically 2 or 3 nights a year that DW and I wish we had A/C in the house. On the hotest day of the year in Calgary the daytime temperature will be around 37C / 100F and that will only be once or maybe twice a year. The temperature won't get that high until about 2:00pm and by 10:00pm things will have cooled back down to 15C / 60F. The reason that being out in the sticks helps me is we always seem to have a gentle breeze at night so the house cools down really quickly. Yesterday morning I woke with a bit of a shock. It was still quite warm when we went to sleep so I left all of the windows open. When I woke up at 4:30am, it was 5C / 41F outside and a strong breeze had come up so the house was pretty much the same temp as outside. Let me tell you, it was a little nippy stepping out of the shower a few mins later. Keep in mind this weather is not the same for all developed areas of Canada. Toronto gets hot, humid weather like Chicago and I am sure Scotty can jump in and enlighten us about the weather in Saskatchewan when he is online next.

So, with all that in mind, there are lots of cars and trucks up here without A/C. We really don't need it most of the time. On the flipside, you will NEVER see a car or truck in Calgary without a block-heater. When it hits -40 (same in Celsius or Fahrenheit), motor oil is like molasses and batteries operate at something crazy like 10% efficiency. Our poor vehicles need all the help they can get in the winter. A bunch of folks in the Alberta DTR chapter have a thing called an Espar. Google it - it is awesome. Basically it is a little boiler that runs on diesel fuel and your battery and when temps get too cold it kics on and uses burning diesel fuel to heat your coolant and then circulate it through your engine block.

Sigh. Its my older, highly refined powers of observation working again.
I recently observed that our couch and chairs had swapped sides in the living room and was informed that she had done it weeks ago.

Until recently AC was an option on a lot of cars sold up here.

Wow! What perfect timing.

We lived on base housing the entire time I was growing up (except for Germany and briefly at Amarillo AFB ). It made moving (13 times by age 17) both easier and harder.
Easier because we used primarily govt furniture (parents bought a lot of nice stuff but had it shipped to storage so us kids wouldn't thrash it).
But harder since the final inspection was a pain in the rear.

At least there hasn't been any heated discussions about the merits of certain farm animals lately. They all ended badly.

Well if you can get the site to work I'd be MORE than happy to make the coffee. I've made myself a promise that after 3 tries, I quit.
