New Dodge 1500 trucks

So, Ive been thinking of converting back to a Dodge 1500 truck in 2whl drive. Really, like the looks of the new CrewCab with the dual exhaust.
Here's the kicker. The Dual exhaust only comes with the Hemi, in a pkg which includes 20in tires. Them darn 20in tires are expensive. Can't get the Hemi with 17inch tires in a crew cab with dual exhaust. Then it's in a 3.21 open rear end. Can't wait to see how many trucks and boats end up in Belton lake cause the thruck slides backwards into the water. Could opt for the 3.55 open rear for a little better torque. You can up to a 3.92 or 4.10 rear in Limited Slip....There's goes the gas mileage.

What was Dodge thinking to not have a lockable 3.55 rear end for 2whl drive trucks?

? trying to figure out the point of this topic.

???

anyway.. i love the new agressive look of the 1500 and the doodads like the ram box.
i think i saw though the new HD's are not going to have the same look. disappointing, but i wont be trading in my 3rd gen anytime soon anyway, facelift or not.

as for you converting back to 1500? i guess it would depend on your money situation. im sure you already know gas, tires, new finance, ins. etc.. is going to cost more.

to ME. that sure isnt worth it for the looks.

i feel i UPGRADED when i went from my 3rd gen 1500 to the CTD. wouldnt go back to 1500, never getting a gasser pickup again!! (or any other pickup for that matter :P i plan on keeping this one forever)

The point is, why doesn't Dodge have a limited slip or locking rear end for the 2 whl drive trucks in other than a 3.92 or 4.10 rear end? This low of a gear is gonna kill the gas mileage. Why couldn't they have made the 3.55 in limited slip?

Hey Chief .... any reason why you couldn't go with a 4x4 in the 1500 ??

I got one of those for the wife last year and it seems to work out pretty good. Course, she's got those 20" tires too ... so that ought to be fun to replace ... not !

Cheers,
PISTOL

From the other forums you're better off with the 3.92 with 20" wheels for fuel economy. Even some reported no change in fuel economy when switching to the 4.56 if driven sanely. And it pulls much better.
