I'd make sure of the laws beforehand.
If you have no handgun permit (covers handguns and long guns) and no FID card (covers long guns only) and get caught, you could be in for a royal pain in the <edit>.
Excerpt from Mass gun law:
"Unlawfully carrying a firearm in a vehicle, or in one`s possession outside one`s residence or place of business, without the required license or card, subjects a person to a mandatory minimum sentence of 1 year in jail, or 2 1/2 years in prison. This mandatory sentence does not apply to a person holding a valid card but not the required license."
I don't think anyone has been convicted of this but if you do get caught without the proper paperwork you're in for a major hassle to say the least.
You should at a minimum get an FID card to transport the long guns and then at least you can plead ignorance (although they will tell you that's no excuse) if they find any handguns in your vehicle.
Not to do so in Mass ain't too smart.
