Need Proof For Stupid Bet

I've read that and heard it from a few places, most notably while studying degrees of seperation and population increases. I've always heard that that was true. Construct a negative exponential function, and you'll see how its possible. It's not as far fetched as it sounds.

....... and then there were 2,391,399 americans that died in 1999, 2,337,256 in 1998, 2,314,245 in 1997..... that was americans alone the russian statistics are similar. India and china aren't listed. if a guy was energetic he could go through all the countries listed figure out what the annual death toll was and start multiplying by years.

Ok what about the cenus?
I'm like westcoaster, I believe you could find that probably half of the worlds population (3 billion) have died in the United states in last 100 years.

So while the total number of people alive today is about 6 billion, the
total number who ever previously was alive (as of 60 years ago) seems to
be roughly 1.8 + 30 + 8 billion, or 39.8 (call it 40) billion.

Reponce-
Dear Chad:
This is a fascinating question that has been asked many times and the
following table summarizes the range of results that have been obtained.
We have been working on a new set of estimates for some time, but it is a
time-consuming job. Based on Bourgeois-Pichat's estimates, the current
world population represents about 7 percent of those that were ever born.
