Need help from DTR Firefighters.
I am trying to pursue a career in firefighting. Recently I was in a dirt bike accident where I obtained a metal plate on my left humerus. When I was looking over the NFPA 1582 section 6.14.1 metal plates are classified as Category A medical conditions. How many of you or know of any that are in the fire service with metal plates. I am hoping that it is more of a guide line, and as long as I have full mobility I won't have any problems.
TIA

NFPA are guidelines only, however, they do carry weight for decision making. It will all depend on the department you are trying to get on. One of our guys was hit by a pick up truck while on his bike, smashed his femur up pretty good. He has rods pins and screws in his leg and he is still on the job. He was on the job already when the accident occurred. A clean bill of health with records showing 100% mobility/use of you shoulder will aid in allowing entry pending their own physical elvaluation.
Good luck, its the best job you will ever hate.
