Exclamation Need Expert Help For Serious Problem

I've tried and tried, I just cant make it work

Up before the hoot owls today...Fix my coffee, grab my gun, load the dog and head north in chase of my white feathered friends....

Arrive at the field....Fix the decoys, load the gun, square the dog....Waiting patiently for the snows to arrive....

Shoot, miss, shoot, miss Whats new (dog grumbling at my poor shooting skills )

Relaxing as I watch several flights....Coffee time

Only to find a coffeecicle in my thermos

Its 34 degrees outside, and my coffee is cold as a well,
you know ...

This isnt my first thermos related mishap....I've tried boiling, broiling, everything but the microwave....Doesnt matter if/how I pre-heat this thing, I'm cold in like 4 hours....Is there an ages-old secret to these things? Or is my thermos shot??? How does one acheive that (seemingly impossible) satisfaction of hot coffee all day long, without the aid of electricity or campfires??

BTW its one of those big green metal stanley things

Pour boiled water in the stanley and let it sit for a few minutes then dump it out and pour your coffee in. This will preheat the thermos and won't suck the heat out of your coffee right away. I can usually get 5-6 hours of hot coffee from mine.

Mines the same, about 4 -5 hours at best. After that,

Now, I keep a jug of water, some coffee, and a 12 volt coffee pot in the truck. Won't make but two cups at a time, but not too bad. Got it at some sporting goods show a couple years ago. Might look for one, was about 20 bucks if I remember right.

Change to tea. That way you can have hot tea in the morning & ice tea in the afternoon.

Learn how to shoot better, and you won't HAVE to be out there as long!

Ain't I HELPFUL?

Just kidding!

I have a cheapie plastic thermos that I take into the woodlot. That thing keeps my coffee hot at least 8 hours. It'd prob'ly last longer than that, but I never have any coffee left after that!

Up until right now, I never heard of pre-heating a thermos, but i tmakes alotta sense!

Sorry I can't offer anything else.

thermos

for me, i use the prewarming technique as mentioned above. Also, i have noticed that the brand of thermos is a major factor. i use Nissan, like in the automobile. stainless steel body with plastic black trim. this is THE thermos. a few bucks more than the standard run of the mill. but worth it at the end of the 5th hour of it sitting in there.

I have both the Stanley brand and the Thermos brand in stainless steel.

I wanted to find out which one was better at keeping coffee hot, so I did my own little test. I filled them both up with boiling hot water, capped them, and then waited a couple of hours. I then opened them both up and checked the temps.

The result of my little test? The thermos brand was quite a bit hotter then the stanley brand. I won't use the stanley anymore.

Switch to RUM ... after the 5th hour in the tree stand, you won't really give a toot whether it's warm or cold ... you'll be comfortably numb .

Doubt that your aim will improve much though .
