Good news about the dog
Now handle the second part make sure the sheriff serves this kid with notice about trespassing and collects the gun as "evidence" even if he doesn't charge the kid with anything. I'd also start getting my civil case together to recover the money you spent onbills. The burden of proof is much lower.

great news now you have to get him back to work and socialized. make sure u expose him to kids right away cause if this kid did infact do this the dog may react toward kids or short people. also if you train the the local police/sheriff se if they can expose him to some weapons and see what kind of reaction you get.
Just and aside but we had a dog at work that was afraid of polished floors great at everything else but would freak when he had to walk across a shiny floor.

Jack:
I just now saw this post on your SAR Dog!
I am very sorry to hear what happened to the dog but
I am very happy for you that everything looks alright now!
I know how hard you have been working with the dog and
to have that "bond" broken by some undisciplined kid with
no care or concern for the dog or your property is awful!!
I hope you get relief either from the police or through a
civil suit!
Take care Jack!
