You sure about the OSHA approval Hoss. I thought that the ones I had seen from Direct Safety Supply were approved. I know my company doesn't like them (Won't Allow Them) because at a distance it gives some people the impression that not everyone is wearing a hard hat.

Hmmm. You moving to Texas and need advice. Here ya go:

Do not eat ribs with a fork.

You will be laughed/pointed/looked at. Quite possibly tossed out. Seems like everyone from up north will alway try to eat ribs with a fork.

Never try to eat the "EAT IT AND IT'S FREE" steak dinner.

You just can't do it, and you end up tossing it in the parking lot.

The Chicken Fried Steak is always good. Just don't order the large.

No, I'm not sure. I just assumed. We don't allow them, but it may well be for the same reason you just stated. I never thought enough about it to ask.

Check out Sealy, a little further West on I10. Also Fulshear, little town south of Brookshire, although it is quickly becoming part of Houston. Katy is OK, now the western edge of civilization. New burbs all up & down the Grand Parkway, on the West side. Just paert of Houston's ongoing growth.
Less than 1 person in 10 was born here. There is no North or South here, just the Wold Capital of Oil & Energy, which is International. There is no USA, Germany, or England. they have been superceded by Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Conoco/Phillips; you know, the guys that own the Democrats & Repulicans.
Also NASA and the Medical center. We have Sports, VD, and West Nile Virus, all similar.
It's a good place to make a living, especially when Oil is strong.
Just figure out how to stay out of rush hour.
People here are friendly. Most of them are not from here, or even Texas. They are glad to be someplace where they can make a good living and as the song says, "The sun shines most of te time." No snow, 3 flakes back in 93.
One day in the early 80's, they closed schools due to a heavy frost.
Predictions of snow here are treated like a Hurricane.
Lots of things to like about Houston, lots of things to not like. It will be what you make of it. What is respected here are rugged individualists who keep there word.
Good luck in your search!
If you have questions, I may be of some help. Lived here awhile.

Yes, other historic dates, Winter 83(Christmas?) Froze all the way to the Rio Grande, killed the majority of the Citrus. Killed many many Palms trees all over S. Texas. Froze up the Nuclear power plant reserevoir, cut off power to Houston. About 1/3 of homes along the Gulf coast sustained water pipe breakage, as they put the water pipes in the attic here. With many people gone at Christmas, they came home to fllooded houses.
Similar incident in 89, also about Christmas, I think.
Since 89, pretty much a walk in the park.
Summers-Hot, humid, although seldom over 100. Not sure how people lived here prior to AC. Not sure how they live here with what Electricty costs, about $.16/KWH/HR.
Occasional Hurricanes.
Oct. to June, mostly great weather.
2 seasons in Houston & Texas, 1.Air Conditioning 2. heating

The joke here in the Houston area is that we have to run the A/C in order to light the fireplace.

This can experienced within the same day! Hard freeze in the morning with central heat on and A/C running hard by that afternoon. Drives HVAC systems crazy...
This is not Texas BS either! You'll see...

Texans don't need to stretch the truth.. It's already bigger in Texas... (and deeper!)

Fairy tales elsewhere begin with "Once upon a time....."

In Texas, they begin with "Hey, y'all, this ain't no EDIT....."

(I edited it myself to save the moderators the time and trouble!)
