For you military folks, got a question...

I'd like to stock up on a few cases of Military MRE for emergencies.

I see eb-y has them. Cabelas or BassPro doesn't.

Wheres another good place to get them?

Whats best to get first? Meal A/B and more side items?

and How much should a person stock up on?

They wouldnt be the same thing as the MRE's the military uses. Those are for military use only. They are close though.

I would recommend at least one month of supplies for you and your family.

hit the army surplus stores if any still around in your area;

ebay ones are picked through and came mostly from hurricane relief efforts...

a meals mostly basic but good. was a list on ebay for all meal selections

beef stew a personal favorite at 20 below. ask the young fellas that have been in country what they liked..

Become good friends with an infantry soldier. He'll give you more MRE's than you know what to do with.

when a buddy was finishing his reserves tour, he would take several cans of soup and the like to eat on while doing "guard duty" on his two weeks.

be careful with MRE's they are something like 4000 calories per pack. they are designed to feed a guy on the move once per day.

Really? I have yet to see one that has over 1500. They seem to be in the 1300 range for the complete meal.

they are definitely way too many calories to "sit on guard duty" for two weeks eating...

You may be thinking of the cold weather MRE's. Those things pack a LOT of calories.

They've definately come a long way with them since the 80s. (we called them Lurp Rats (LRRP rations)) Ate the new ones for the 1st time during Katrina clean up. Think I still have a few cases left over for "hard times"

The neat thing is how long the things last. The ones I carry in the car were mfg in 1982. Dispite high heat and getting frozen they are perfectly good except for the crackers (crumbs).

I use Saratoga Trading and The Ready Store for my emergency, camping, survival, and storage needs. All are fresh and new. Just got some US coast guard approved 2400 cal food bars for my grab an go bag!
