Re:mileage rates
With my trailer I need to get $1.35 per mile to break even
You need to remember all your costs, Labor, Equipment, Insurance, Fuel, Deadhead Miles, Maintenance Cost, License, Fuel Tax reporting
The big profit killer is deadhead miles if your not loaded both ways, or need to travel long distant to the next load eats any profit

Re:mileage rates
Just keep in mind that once you start hauling 'for hire' you fall under an entire different set of rules/regulations as far as the DOT goes.. You are then considered the same as any of the big trucking companies.. You need to have for hire license plates, your truck insurance has to be for hire, cargo insurance, dot number, dot regulations, and the list goes on and on and on..
I am assuming you are just an average joe that is thinking of trying to make some money hauling for someone else.. So dont try to get started without making it legal..
Hauling_In_Dixie is a good source for any specific questions you may have on what you need to do to be legal..
Good luck
