Microsoft Office 2003
Anyone use it?
I was planning to install Office XP on my new computer since I already have it, but when I got ready to install it the installation disk was cracked. Microsoft can send me another one for $30, but it is on backorder and they say they won't have it until the end of the month.
I was thinking of springing for the latest version so I wouldn't have to wait a month for it but I didn't know if the changes made to the 2003 version were worth the extra $$$. Anyone have any opinions on that?

I use Office 2003 Pro and I love it. Outlook is a great email and organizational application and it ties in with the other apps. If you do any kind of database work Access is really powerful and integrates with SQL server very well also.

Who did you buy your new computer from? Call them and tell them your disk was cracked and they owe you another one. Gratis. No charge.
I just got it and so far I like it. I haven't used it that much, but the price was right ($0) so I installed it. Good luck!

Maybe I should clarify. I bought Office XP several years ago for another computer. The new computer did not come with any such software because I was planning to install what I already had on it. I originally bought it from Best Buy, but I doubt they would be willing to replace a three year old disk with a new one.

check out OpenOffice. It's an open source, i.e. free, alternative to MS Office.
Click on the download link at:
http://www.openoffice.org/
from the product description page:
If you're used to using other office suites - such as Microsoft Office - you'll be completely at home with OpenOffice.org 1.1. However, as you become used to OpenOffice.org 1.1, you'll start to appreciate the extras that make your life easier. You can of course continue to use your old Microsoft Office files without any problems - and if you need to exchange files with people still using Microsoft Office, that's no problem either.

I'm using OpenOffice since the time it was called Staroffice. Works extremely well for me, MS Office users never notice that my files were generated with OpenOffice. I love the ability to generate .pdf files directly from the application good for sending out the bills
Only thing that's not in it is an equivalent to MS Access. On the other hand it can use any SQL server and this works even nicer than MS Access for generating reports and stuff like that.

Yeah....it's just too bad that in two more years Ford is gonna yank their Cummins engines out of the Dodge trucks and start putting them in their own trucks.
