Melroe/Bobcat Skid Loader

I borrowed my buddys Melroe/Bobcat M-600 skid loader to do some dirt work in a small place at my house. Everything was going well, then the machine stopped moving side to side (turning) and it wont even push 1/4 yard of dirt before the main belt to the hyd. system stops and a whining/moaning noise comes from the pump that is located on the side of the engine... The tires spin freely when its jacked up off the ground, but its like there is no pressure in the system to do anything that it really needs to do.... Any ideas, maybe a valve, maybe the pump went to poop??? Dont know much about these older machines!!

Maybe it ran out of fluid? Or maybe the belt should be tightened?

Just a couple of thoughts.

Fluid looks good, belt is plenty tight. Im thinking a bearing went out in the pump of maybe there is a "safety clutch" in the pump that went bad too???

Hi
If it is a 600 or a 610 they are belt and chain drive.
The hyd pump is only for lift functions and lubing the drive clutches.
A good bet is the drive belt may be saturated with oil from a hyd leak.
At the rear of the loader the drive belt is on your left side.
Check to see if it is there, it could have broke.
There is a hyd split pulley on the engine and this is how it varies ground speed.
This goes to a spring loaded split pulley which runs a jackshaft to both sides
of the chain case.
Check to make sure all of this is rotating.
When you are seated on your left there is a handle to increase the variable speed.
Try moving it forward and you should hear all the mechanicals speed up.
If not it may be time for a new belt and some minor adjustments.

I own a second hand m-610 that had very poor maintenance and after about
700 in repairs it is as good as new.

I dont blame him for being upset that you would degrade a JD part like that...

good to hear you got it fixed.

HAHA Fronty I know I hate to degrade premium JD parts like that. But somethings just have to be done the wrong way

Anybody know the HP rating on these 4 cylinder air cooled Wisconsin engines? Its a reman right from Melroe/bobcat.

I dislike Bobcat, but this thing does a lot better in small places than the 270 Deere does... I offered him $300.00 for it and it sounds like he is interested, think thats a good deal? Engine runs great BTW.
