Here's my new boy. He's a registered Caucasian Ovcharka. They're bred to be flock guard dogs in the Caucasus Mountains in Russia. They grow to be 130-150 lbs. He's one month old in the pic. We get him next weekend. Haven't pick out a name yet. Maybe Boris, Yuri or Luka.

Looks like a great dog for guarding a large property. I vote for naming him Boris. I found this web page for anyone who wants more info about the Caucasian Ovtcharka:

Ha Chrisreyn my board collie just got out of the vet from being kicked in the head full tilt from my new 6yr old who was flat out tired of her biting his heels stupid dog wont ever learn hopefully now that her head is miss shaped she will.

On a sadder note I just had to put down my 16yr old golden retriever best dog I have ever had she will be missed so much she is down by the creek chasing the pheasants she loved to hunt and by god rest assured there will be a perminate remind that she is there and that is her spot.

Is that the same dog as the Caucasian Mountain Dog.....you might check to see if they are legal in your state...Most states have outlawed that type of dog because they have a horrible disposition...

There was a National Geographic show recorded that damaged the breed's reputation. You can read about it here. http://www.esquirecaucasians.com/sim...y=0&category=7

The pup is very well bred from a responsible breeder who doesn't breed overly aggresive dogs. When we met the father, he tore around the yard and then ran over, sat down and leaned on us wanting to get petted. Granted, I wouldn't go into the yard without the breeder there, but responsible ownership with a lot of socialization when the pup is young is the key to raising a well behaved dog. It's a shame that poor breeding and irresponsible owners ruin any dog's reputation.

99.9% of dog-related problems are due to bad owners, not bad dogs. I seriously considered a CO before I got my Neo. Great breed, and if they had shorter hair, I might have one today!
