Man's '91 Pickup Passes the 1M-Mile Mark

GRESHAM, Wis. (AP) — Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest."

Recent news stories told how Oresnik had just 1,200 miles to go before reaching the milestone in the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that he bought with 41,000 miles on it in 1996 and used in his business, distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest.

At the time, he was getting his latest oil change — the kind of regular maintenance he credits with helping to keep the truck going so long.

He said he's had the truck's oil changed more than 300 times. It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be rethreaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that."

He passed the million-mile mark Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way back home to Catawba, located in the north in Price County, about an hour west of Rhinelander. He was on County Highway V southeast of Fond du Lac.

On hand was a film crew from Chevrolet's public relations and advertising company, and he was speaking live to Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."

A news crew from CBS had been with him earlier in the day.

"I wont say it was relief ... it was exhilarating," Oresnik said later during a stop in Gresham where he has one of his longtime customers. "This truck has been so dependable over the years." Now that it's made history, the truck could be headed back to the automaker or Shell Oil. Oresnik said there's been some interested in GM or Shell Oil buying it.

I know it's not quite 1 million miles, but my 92 has 440,000 miles on it. It was my dad's truck, and he passed it down to me since he now has an 85 crew cab Cummins conversion. He's been doing routine maintenance on it since he bought it new so it's been well taken care of. I'm going to drive it until I reach 1 million miles and hope I can still keep on rolling from there.

Is the real reason it made the news, because it is the first "Chevy" to ever reach a million miles?

J/K I wish him luck.

Not because its a chevy, but its the SECOND chevy 350 GAS motor to hit 1,000,000 miles. I have had a couple I abused the crap out of with over 220,000 miles and my family drive chevy's, most of them with around 300,000 miles. Those old 350's are the most reliable gas motors ever. Kinda like the Cummins in the diesel world.

I'd sell it for at least $1 a mile.

I know of at least one first gen CTD at home that has over 1.1 million miles, and it is a form trailer puller for a concrete construction company. Nothing done other than regular maintenance and a upgraded clutch.

This is nothing great unless they are talking about chevy tbi 350 gassers making it 1,000,000 miles. When I first heard this, I was like big edit deal......
There was a Toyota that did this on David Letterman a few years ago. He drove around the block until it hit 1 million miles with cameras running. I also saw an old dodge cummins on ebay a few years ago that had like 1.25 million miles and he stated that he had documentation on that being actual mileage....

Except for the "soft cam"engines of the 80s, right?

I'd put a Honda against most any Chevy.

How about the Ford 300? Don't see too many 350's running pumps and generators, but you do see some 300's doing it.
