Man, what a day!!!
Well, it's been a day. You know the type, start out a half step behind and by the end of the day you don't have a clue where you are. Today is that day. 0630 called dump truck driver to give him the stone order. Truck driver and wife took daughter out for her birthday the evening before, driver is sick from the food. He locates another truck about 0730. Truck arrives on the job about 0930. I finish the job about 1445 and head across town to run one errand and get a hair cut. 1500, talk to wife and find out her friends test results will be available in a couple hours. The friend is having as of yet unexplained balance problems with tremors, not good. 1600, errand ran and hair cut successful, now heading across town, 20 minute drive to post office to pick up package from my daughter who is stationed in Germany. I have been waiting on this package for more than two weeks so I'm excited. Remember, it's 1600, twenty minute drive to post office and it closes at 1700. Now here comes the afternoon rush and it's twenty more minutes to get on the interstate, but I'm not worried it's a twenty minute drive. 1630, driving on I59 North between the I20 split and the 1st Ave. North exit, in the center lane, all by my self, talking to the wife on the phone and WHAM, an id10t in a POS 92 Chevy PU side swipes me. As you can imagine my blood pressure went to beatthesnotoutofsomebody, soon!!!! We all manage to get to the shoulder without further damage or injury and exchange a friendly handshake. I folded my driver's side mirror back into place and only noticed a small scratch on the spot, no biggie. A witness stopped and told me he saw the guy swerve into me so he backed off because he knew there was going to be a crash. He works for a law firm by the way. The driver of the Chevy stated he reached for something that had fallen on the floor and swerved into me, his fault. O K, twenty more minutes and I'm on my way, headed to the post office. I walked up to the doors at 1701 and they were all locked. I'm beginning to understand how easy "going postal" could be. Walk back to the truck and that's when I see the rest of the damage. There should be black paint on that blue Chevy. The wheel well just above the LR tires is scratched, big time. It's now 1705 and nobody is answering the phone at his agents office. I called the guy in the Chevy and left him a message to call me. I get home and have a bill in the mail from the people who pick up our garbage. They saw I owe part of a months collection fee, I don't think so. I pay a full year in advance and it's not time to pay yet. Boy, now I'm fired up, pick up the phone and a very nice recording tells me the office is not open right now. So, with all this frustration in hand I take the wife out to dinner and return home to put pen and paper together in an effort to encourage and entertain my fellow DTR members. If any of you are having a day like mine today I won't consider it high jacking if you want to post it here. As a matter of fact, I could use some cheering up myself so feel free. I'm turning the rant over to you!!!

I know exactly how you feel!! I was hit at the end of July by the border jumper, 3 weeks later a boys tire came off his jeep and hit my trailer...now my back and neck are all out of wack from two wammy's in a row. Body shop said two weeks, 3 weeks get truck back. Fight insurance company.....ahhhhhhh, my insurance company. So I know where you are coming from! Glad your alright! You were able to talk to him at least, which means he probably has insurance AND a drivers license...wow, imagine that, a drivers license! My altercation included no conversation.

Well the sand box has been an eventfull day since i am an night shift i have to figure out schedules to get my other needs accomplished. So i get off at 7 am and heve to wait around an hour and a half for the Major to get his lil morning briefing. Get outa the area at about 845 and hoof it over to the trailer for a shower and change. Get showered and change and head for a haircut, 1 hour later i am good to go. So it pushing 1030 now and i have to drop the laundry at the laundry point so i get the laundry dropped grab a lil grub at the chow hall and head for the trailer at 1230 for some sleep. Well what do you know idiots in Baghdad decide that explosions are the order of the day and i get woke up about 4 times thanks to the fun and festivities in town. Finaly drag my butt outa bed do the 3 S's **** shower and shave. head to the chow hall for dinner and get to work at 1850 and start my shift. Well come to find out i get to work and extra hour thanks to the time change tonight and to top it off the officers are having a football tailgate type party in back and they dont invite me since they will need a NCO available to take care of issues in the building and on the phones. AAAARRRGHHHH see if they get any more of my good German coffee the Frau sends me every week.

So, I'm in the px parking lot, go inside and get a monster (soda), get back in my truck, step on the LOUD pedal, crank the wheel to the right and... feels like I ran over a tree. Stop, get out and look, and I have managed to drive OVER the hood of a 04 malibu. (Tire print over the hood.) Not just any one's hood, noooooo, couldn't be a LCpl's car, but a LtCol's WIFE's car. Not a scratch on mine, though!! Just gotta smile, and cry like a girl when you get home.

I hear you cluckin' there big chicken. I've had my share of those days. I was hit by a drunk driver 2 years ago and fought MY insurance company (even though hers admitted complete fault) to get the truck fixed right and brought back to previous condition, which of course it never was. It was 1 month before I got it back. Then I've had mine where all I want to do is crawl into a hole and not be bothered for a week. I'm not the smartest egg in the world and since I'm going to college for mechanical engineering, that means I've had my fair share of crappy test scores, for some reason stuff like that really gets to me and I just convince myself to keep at it.... only 2 3/4 years left But at the end of the day I try and remind myself that I can be thankful that I at least have the opportunity to go to college. Sometimes it takes more persuasion than others
Look on the bright side, at least you didn't get hurt from the accident and you have a wife and family to keep you company.
(and of course all of us on DTR )
