My sympathys

I originally thought about the Navy when I enlisted, but then deicided on the Army. Why would I want to be with a bunch of squid stuffed in a jar?

Thank you for serving. My career was pathetic dealing with those sneaky little. . . . . I did my damage, they just got even with me.

Not smart for an old army dog to talk like that to a young Marine... Might get to the clearing at the end of your path a little faster...

Thanks, and thanks for your service. What did you do, how long were you in?

69 to late 71, where I was sent home with a high iron content and a 14" hole in my gut.

I told them I wanted to be an engineer. So they put me in the engineer corp. . . . Driving a truck! Doubled as a machine operator, bridge builder, and even ran ammo when the LZ's were too hot. That was scary. 5 tons of explosives and an M16. They had a special name for us and I froget what it was. I can't even remember my serial

The yellow bretherin slipped behind the lines an sent over a couple of random motar rounds. One of them landed in the mess tent, hitting a cast iron fry pan which went into my gut as I was getting chow. That in turn sent myself and 2 others through the tent into the road, where I got hit by a Jeep. I mean a real WWII style Jeep. Severed my intestines (Pee Hewww) in a couple of places. The good thing was we all had disentary so we were empty.

4 weeks later I was on a transport.

We used to plow roads through the jungle as rounds went whizzing through the cabins. Those AK's were scary, especially in the hands of the irregulars. Unpredictable. Burried a bunch in a underground cave with a D8. When I got on top, the ground collapsed.

Enough war stories.

Good lookin pup there Mark. Glad to see it does in fact exist!!!

Figured I'd stop in...

Nice pics ma, Those are really close. We had a resident moose here a while back. Only had one eye. My oldest boy, about 11 or 12 at the time said he was gonna get a pic of her, told him cool. Walked up to her, she was on the other side of our back fence, got a pic from about 3 feet away. You could see the alfalfa between her teeth... Momma was not happy, I thought it was pretty cool... (so did he!!!)

Bark - If you don't stop talking about air hoisted hospital gowns and properly matched socks, I'm gonna keep bringing up your 'accident' with the sheep... I must now go find a brillo pad to clean my eyes out with...

Matt!!!! Cool man!!! post up how your first day went!!!

Kinda dead in here tonight... Must be monday already

Shows you how out of touch I am. Are you talking about the helicopter (I think its the Sea Knight)?. Those things aint bullet proof and you guys are nuts for even getting close to them.

Id rather forget about that one. From now on I will wear only heavy clothing like a burka (but I get to keep the thong).

Had to get out of bed to add some wood to the smoker. Got a brisket going. Its going to be good. Back to sleep for a couple more hours.

My cousin has home movies of that stuff. A lot of the family couldn't understand why he had changed when he came home... until they saw the movies.

Morning all.

Today is Monday, June 27th.

On this day in 1847 - New York and Boston were linked by telegraph wires.

1893 - The New York stock market crashed. By the end of the year 600 banks and 74 railroads had gone out of business.

1905 - The battleship Potemkin succumbed to a mutiny on the Black Sea.

1918 - Two German pilots were saved by parachutes for the first time.

1927 - The U.S. Marines adopted the English bulldog as their mascot.

1931 - Igor Sikorsky filed U.S. Patent 1,994,488, which marked the breakthrough in helicopter technology.

1942 - The FBI announced the capture of eight **** saboteurs who had been put ashore from a submarine on New York's Long Island.

1944 - During World War II, American forces completed their capture of the French port of Cherbourg from the German army.

1950 - Two days after North Korea invaded South Korea, U.S. President Truman ordered the Air Force and Navy into the Korean conflict. The United Nations Security Council had asked for member nations to help South Korea repel an invasion from the North.

1954 - The world's first atomic power station opened at Obninsk, near Moscow.

1955 - The state of Illinois enacted the first automobile seat belt legislation.

1957 - More than 500 people were killed when Hurricane Audrey hit the coastal area of Louisiana and Texas.

1973 - Nixon vetoed a Senate ban on bombing Cambodia.

1980 - U.S. President Carter signed legislation reviving draft registration.

1991 - Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall resigned from the U.S. Supreme Court. He had been appointed in 1967 by President Lyndon Johnson.

1992 - The body of kidnapped Exxon executive Sidney J. Reso was found buried in a makeshift grave in a state park in New Jersey. Arthur and Irene Seale were later convicted and sentenced to prison for the crime.

1998 - An English woman was impregnated with her dead husband's sperm after two-year legal battle over her right to the sperm.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Amateur boxer Joe Flanagan named his two sons Bob and Weave.

Coffee and ph00 are ready.

Talking

Mornin' DTR fellas!

makin' bacon sounded good, so I asked the dragon for a favor...

happy first day Matt!
Polar, thank you for your pound of flesh (old army MP here) and
here's to Jeff (wyomingdodge), Redleg, cincy and the busy FiverBobo, among the missing.
Bark, the halibut was sinfully delicious. grilled on alder, never thought fish could taste like that or that you can cook on a board. we build with boards, not use them as frying pans...heheheh. just have red salmon left, looking for a recipe or something for them.

Did Stan (mexstan) go to china? hope not, his accent will be confused.

neighbor's grandkids were up, we played made up games (10, 8, 5 yrs old), rode the four wheelers through a "race course", saw the thousand koi at the one acre pond. grandparents were happy. all of them are coming up today to catch frogs, crayfish for their small garden pond. bet the kids slept well.LOL

off for a random act of motorcycling today......got to figure out what to do for the 4th of July. might get the big boat in the water, got some cosmetic stuff to clean first.
