At charity events, they use teams of 20 guys to pull 747s in timed events......

http://www.lasvegas-nv.com/heard2.htm
6/11/98 - The new "D" gates at McCarran Airport will celebrate their official grand opening with an "Airplane Pull" on Saturday (6/13/98) morning. Teams of 20 men will pull the first Federal Express 747 airplane twleve feet onto the tarmack. Based on the manpower supplied and previous experience with this sort of opening at other airports, they hope to have the move over with in less than a minute... takeoffs however will likely continue to take... forever.
For a car to do it,....Not all that impressive.

That was stupid. People beleive anything if they don't know what they are watching. There was no weight carried by the car, and the rolling resistance is very small on a plane. That was about the same as pulling a loaded grocery basket.

This genuis only had about 3,000 pounds in his VW Jetta before the rear shocks came through the floorboard.

Ya better go back and re wach that video. The thing was bottmed out. The suspension was fully compressed. The rear tires where angeled in at the top from the IRS being fully compressed.

I would put money on a automatic dakota would be able to pull that plan with ease. Take the tires off the plane then try pulling it. Other than that it aint that hard. I was in a 20 man team that pulled a 747 at a cancer fund raising event. The hardest part was geting it moving but it only took mabey 10 - 15 seconts and we were goin like it was a cakewalk.

As mentioned earlier in this thread:

Dodge has been tugging planes around for years.

they say up to 70 tons. Touareg towed 155 tons. I don't say a dodge diesel couldn't do it...just saying it's impressive for a midsize suv which wasn't built to tow more then 7.7 tons beeing able to tow the 747.

not really! we do it every year at work for a charity! 20 people, men and women to pull 747 20 yds who can do it fastest. i would say a neon could do it be as he said traction would be the thing cant add weight to front end, unless you stacked weight on hood

Puh-leese...

The Toureg has a whole lotta power stock, but putting it in low-range gear and hooking it to something with wheels doesn't prove anything. With that much ballast he could've probably got three fully fueld and loaded 747's tied together to start moving. As could've a stock CTD with low-range gear box, or a stock anything with an engine above 300 cubic inches and a low range gear box.

I'd be much more impressed to see it pull a sled with 30,000 pounds on it three hundred feet.

And of all things, he's saying it's a world record. I think that the Toureg has more power stock than a new Dodge, but if any 4x4 06 or 07 Dodge owner out there has access to a 747, I'm willing to bet you could blow his "record" out of the water without much sweat.
