Looking for a new truck

my dad is looking for a new truck. he currently has a 2000 1 ton ford cc, 4wd, auto, with the ole 7.3 dually. he's coming up on 200,000 miles, but wants something newer. he and my mom went last week, and looked at some duramax's, but werent impressed(front grilles, bumpers, low riding stance, ifs, etc) we have one duramax already, a 3/4 ton 2wd crew cab, but its coming apart nearly from all the job sites, and the horrible dirt roads and such in east texas. they are goin this week to look at a dodge. probably a 1ton 4wd, diesel of course. i couldnt remember, did they stop making the 5.9 in the middle of 2007? he is looking for a new one, with the 5.9. i told him to look at 07.5 and below. i guess what im asking is when did they stop putting the 5.9 in the trucks. i hope he switches over to the ole cummins though.

Jimmy, they still offer the 5.9 in the new models. They are becoming harder and harder to find though.

I know two people that have 6.7's and are happy with them but neither of them care about mileage. One of them is my neighbor and he pulls a huge(3-axle) 5th wheel toy hauler.

The D-max's are a good engine, but I'm not so impressed with the new GM design of the full-size trucks. My 2wd 2500 Dodge sits higher off the ground than a new '08 3500 HD 4wd with a dump body - and for the camp I've worked with that just recieved this new truck, it's going to be fun to plow over 100" of snow this winter in northern Wisconsin with this "lowriding" truck... Oh well, it's got one of the biggest grilles ever seen on a truck, complete with those wonderful chrome "Chins" on either side of the bumper...

It just dosen't seem like a work truck, somehow.

The 5.9 is no longer being produced . You'll have to find one still in inventory . Go here and click find a dealer http://www.dodge.com/en/2007/ram_3500/ . Some dealer links will list their inventory and even let you see the window sticker . All new trucks will probably have the 6.7 . See if the dealership has a website with used inventory or call them about a 5.9 . I bought my '04 as a new truck but it had 5,000 miles on it and a B&W gooseneck hitch . The dealership owner's daughter had used it to pull a horse trailer .

thanks for the replys guys. my dads really not lookin for a pullin truck anymore. we got plenty of them now, but just something to pull the live stock, and his tractors, and occasionally the backhoes if needed. he's more into the creature comforts now instead of the rugged type of truck. he definately isnt buying a chevilet or a ferd for that matter. he still has one now, but its got the ole 7.3 in it with no problems ever. with all the rebates, he said that hed have to spend that money to rip off the front bumper, put a better one on, get bigger tires, and rims, etc. cant go wrong with the straight axle. i told him to wait a little while until all the bugs get worked out with the emissions "stuff", but hes really wantin to get one. he said his mind is made up on gettin the 6.7, but............... anyhoo, thanks for the replys
