Looking for a CB radio. Suggestions Please.
I'm going to be hauling new campers around the country and I want to get a CB for safety. Good range and low price are what I'm looking for. What do you guys use or suggest. Thanks, Howard

If you just want a good basic radio the Cobra 25 or 29 are hard to beat. I just put a Cobra 25 with weather channels in my son's truck with twin Wilson whips ants. Works great. Dont skimp on the ant. and get the ant.tuned (swr) if you dont have a swr meter any of the radio shops will tune them for a minimal fee.

Not as cheap as some and I'm not sure how well it will work as I don't have the antenna setup yet but I went with a Cobra all-in-one. Biggest advantages are the easy install and weather monitor capability. Got it for about $70 at a closing Radio Shack.

The weatherband radios seem to be an smart choice for travellers, but my Cobra 29 with wx would make a LOUD screech for an alert whenever a bulletin was issued, even when radio was off. This screech was so loud, wife almost wrecked my p/u. She refused to drive it unless the I unplugged the power cord. Some claim theirs won't alert when off, but mine sure did, and was really unnerving.
Not trying to be negative, but wanting to give a little info before you make a purchase. Had I known about that loud screech, I would have purchased a regular C B, and a twelvepack with the savings.

I THINK, (meaning I could be wrong) that you can legally buy a 10 meter radio, but need a license to OPERATE it. If you want to operate a 10, or 11 meter on the C B frequencys, it will have to be modified, no biggie, but that is also illegal. Lots of people do it; (I have a Connex 4800 in my big rig.)

I have a Galaxy 979 http://www.sparkyscbshack.com/catalo...82/2437970.htm
it works good and looks sharp! I also like the Unidens http://www.sparkyscbshack.com/catalo...82/2556374.htm
and Cobra 29's.
The Cobra 29 WX NW ST http://www.sparkyscbshack.com/catalo...82/2935572.htm
is the easiest to see and adjust after dark.

The Cobra 150 is alot more reliable than the 200....I like my 95T better but it gets out.....and if u go with a Cobra 29...get one without soundtracker...soundtrackers talk great with other soundtrackers but dont get out like they should....

Does the Cobra 150 work on CB channels right out of the box? Its specs are 28-29MHZ. I thought CBs worked in the 26MHZ.
Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks!

I had a great Galaxy DX66V... That thing was great but it is a 10 meter radio
I now have a Galaxy DX929 - I really like the color backlighting... but really miss the frequency counter on the DX66V.
Don't forget a well adjusted Wilson 1000 drill mount to get out.
