Lets see pictures of your garage/shop...
I am in the process of buying my first house. Along with the house is a 2 car detached garage (24x24) and am just looking for some creative ideas on how others made use of their space. There is also a small workshop that is 16x12. Plus its always cool to see nice garages and workshops

1) Don't waste your money plumbing the shop for air. Just buy a hose reel and a decent compressor.
2) Space...it all depends on the design of the garage, and how much crap...err...stuff you have to store.

I would make it a metal building with rolltop doors, wall off what area you want to use for shop, storage, tools, etc and a nice a/c unit.
That's just me though. Hell, I want to get rid of my house and put up a nice metal building to live in as well as store my toys, truck, and kennels for my dogs. No storm worries, not near as many foundation worries, easy to maintain, man, that's all I want.

My home garage is set up with a large rolling tool chest with just about every tool you'll need to work on a car, pick-up, semi, tractor, or locomotive. My air compressor has a 50ft hose on it to reach just about anywhere I need to. Have a nice work bench the length of the garage w/ a vice and a bench grinder. I hate bare walls so I have a bunch of mopar signs, tractor signs, oil company signs, Railroad memorbilia, and old license plates on the walls. Use my garage for services, brake jobs, detailing, minor repairs.
Dads shop is setup for the heavier repairs. We have my other large rolling tool chest, his small rolling tool chest, welder, torch, several workbenches, sand blaster, parts cleaner, engine hoist, large bench grinder, bolt bin, larger air compressor (shop is piped up for the air and a hose reel) and a hot pressure washer. Dads shop is 50x100, he uses it for restoring tractors and maintaining his equipment. I use it for my larger jobs.

Claude, I would but its too far of a drive to Marion from Valpo for me when I need to use it. Had a few friends ask if they could use it on a regular basis cause of all the tools and equipment we have aquired together.

My shop space is as big as all outdoors, with lots of natural light, and variable heating and cooling, depending on the season.
My rollaway toolbox is currently a 550 ford 4x4 with a knuckle crane on it, and my floor is built of wood, steel, concrete, asphalt or gravel depending where I am.

This is where all of my projects take place. Dads shop, 50x100. I dont have one of my own right now, but when I build I plan on a 40x60 or so. Kinda silly cause it will be located only about 300 yards from Dads shop but I need something to keep all the Cummins I plan to collect.
Front of Shop
Used to cover the 5er when we had it. Now its home to a bunch of sheet metal from another shop we tore down that will become a hay barn, and some other "stuff".
Lockers and Tool chest for storage and such. Kinda piled up cause we had a couple of ongoing projects and we had to pile everything up for the storm. This was the day before Hurricane Gustave hit.
Workbench area with welding tables, vices, welding machines, etc.
It was slap full of tractors, vehicles, atvs, motorcycles, you name it we stuck it in there.
Got a loft we built that runs for 75 ft of the shop, as usual its catches all the junk....

Instead you have to spend 1/2 the day with the doors open before you can actually enter or you leave the doors open and 1/2 your stuff gets ripped off..
