I like the Coopers's in my sig. They work great in the snow and mud. Judging by tread wear so far I will probably get 30-40,000mi out of them. Not the best for longevity but I don't expect them to last like the Cooper Discoverer AT's on my wife's Expedition. They are great in snow and have good road manners as well. I thing we got 50-60,000 miles out of the first set. I will definetely keep buying Coopers. For optimum tire wear correction inflation and alignment are critical. I check my tire pressure pretty often.

I have a set of 35/12.5 R17 BFG MT's on my truck now, they went on @9K. mi.. I now have 38K on them and they MIGHT make it another 10k. the only issue I have is the tires won't stay balanced.

I was told just today that the factory tires are cheaper...all around. This was from a Goodyear reseller. My Goodyears wore out real fast. I always used the Michelin LTX but these TOYO HT's I have now are getting the vote so far. I will see this winter if they are as good or better then the LTX.

I do know they are good in mud. We will see how they do in snow.
Also nearly half the price of the goodyears.
201 a piece installed compared to 380 each plus install/balance so I guess they were half the price.

One vote for the BFG AT KO.

I had Yokohama on my trucks for years and the final set was a real bust. I only got 40,000 Km out of the SuperDigger 5's (thats 25,000 miles) and they were bald. Way too soft for the road manners and towing of this truck.

The former owner had the Michelin ATS I think? Anyhow, may as well been made of wood, no traction and expensive.

I know alot of guys that do on/off road and gravel with the BFG AT and like them for wear and snow/ice traction. My biz partner has about 40,000 km on his set so far and they are not worn more than 40%. I hope to be as lucky with these. I see more highway and road slime than actual mud, so they should suffice.

Tires should be evaluated on traction first, not appearance or ride quality. Obviously, traction design will be a compromise based on what you prefer. Dry roads need different tread for max traction than do wet roads, snowy roads, or no roads at all (off roading). And off-road, a tire that works best in mud isn't as good on rock, and vice versa.

After traction and handling, is treadwear (assuming you've already eliminated tires with insufficient load rating). Tread wear is simple-- the slower the better. But often better traction comes at the price of treadwear. Choose traction over wear-- wear might not be the difference between a fatal accident and normal driving-- but traction DEFINITELY might be.

Ride quality is next in importance. Keep in mind that comfort and mpg are usually mutually exclusive. The "softness" that makes for a comfortable tire also increases rolling resistance, and reduces mpg.

Appearance is least important for obvious reasons.

With all that said, the best all around tire for a mostly street driven 4wd truck is a BFG A/T KO

Am I the only one that hates Coopers?

I had a set of the A/T on my 1500 Ram, sucked in mud, medeocre at best elsewhere.

My wife's 4Runner had the H/T when we got it, noisy, wouldn't balance, rode rough...

I put Coopers on last time I bought tires.
I'll probably put another set on when these are done.

Cooper SRM II on the front and Discoverer AST on the rear.
Front tires are only about 1/2 gone, the rears?.........well they seem to be wearing a lot quicker since I hooked up the pump wire on my Edge Comp......

I have had good luck with the Bridgestone Revos in stock size ( 265-75-16's Load range E) They were installed at 55K and I now have 78K on truck, they appear to be about half worn, which means this is the last winter I'll run them. Really like them, not much noise and really good traction. I did notice a slight reduction in fuel milage though, dont know if its truck, fuel or the heavier tire, these are heavier than the stock tires.

AND THEY LOOK GOOD!!!

good luck,
DuaneW

i have always had good luck with coopers except for this. They work great until you get the high centered and sitting on the side. The truck had 285-75-16 cooper discoverer S/T

Ya can't really expect a set of tires to overcome a terminal case of Duh disease.

Only in Oklahoma.

I'll probably stick with Michelin when I have to buy new tires. I've got 52,500 miles on my OEM tires right now and they look to have a lot of miles still left on them. I probably will get something with a little bit more aggressive tread though. I don't leave the concrete too much, but these things will get stuck on wet grass.

I had the stock mich's and didn't like them at all (265R70X17). Excessive wheel spin on wet pavement and on the dirt/grass they were virtually worthless. I went up a muddy mountain road in Colo no problem but comming down I couldn't even steer the truck. I almost ended up like Drew03. I took them off at 40K and they had about 30% left. I have the BFG AT KO now and really like them. Good traction on and off road, quiet, and ride is good pulling 5er. (275R70X17) I haven't been back to Colo to try the muddy mountain roads again but around the property they work way better then the Mich's.
