Killing Ticks in the Yard
Well, the ticks are bad here this year, and was just wondering something I can do to kill them in my yard, I live on the edge of town, there are woods across the street. And the house had been empty, and yard not mowed for the summer before I bought it. I'm trying to tame it I know I can't kill them all, but would like to reduce the local population. Just wondering what had worked for yall.

Hey Nick!
Maybe call your local exterminator (local not one of the big ones, terminex etc...) to come out and spray. Anything over the counter probably isn't going to be strong enough.

I've had decent luck with 7dust its nothing like diazanon but it will slow them down. There is a liquid spray you can get at most feed stores called Tempo it will kill spiders ants etc... may work for ticks too? i spray it around the bottom of my house and around the window seals it kills everything for months. Its worth a try.

Call your local pest guy, I worked for Ace Pest Control in Magnolia a while back and after spraying one time bugs were no-more of a problem than to cheap of gasoline lol. Get your house sprayed every 3-6 months ( I don't remember) and you will never have any problems...

I went to Home Depot and asked the guy what would kill ticks and fleas. He showed me some stuff and said a bag would cover about a quarter of an acre. I said give me four bags and he said how much land do you have. I said two 50 by 150 foot lots side by side. He just chuckled. I put that stuff down about five times what you need to use and kept the dogs in till after the rain had washed it in. Haven't had the first tick or flea for three years now. I think it was about $16 a bag.

I asked the same question once and a real "smart" guy told me to get two bricks, put the tick on one and smash it with the other! Don't you just love answers like that? My dogs have been picking up some fleas, so I think I'm going to follow the advise of some of the previous post, myself. Hope you get'em knocked out.

I got a 20# bag of something from lowes, it was not diazinon but it was something with "zon" in it, I think. Anyhow, I put down the granules, 20#'s in our front yard, side and back yard.....not very big, the rest is fenced for animals. Then I still have some diazinon concentrate, put it in my sprayer attached to the garden hose and spray heavy. I have not seen any ground bugs alive out in the part of the yard I did that to in 2 months.
