Kerosene heaters and Diesel

Can i run Diesel in my kerosene heater?
I see some of the Bullet style heaters run diesel, kerosene, #2 oil or Jet fuel. Do these have special burners?
Kerosene is about 50c more here on the Eastcoast than Diesel so i would rather run Diesel besides i love the smell of Diesel fumes, Kerosene stinks and it makes my beer tast funny .
anyone have any thoughts?
I don't want to blow up my new garage.
thanks
scotte

we run diesel all the time in our heaters at work---main reason is thatwe have a diesel pump, but no kerosene. No problems, but smell is the same and you get a little soot buildup after several hours

I posted a thread on this last winter about running WVO.... I would think Biodiesel would run fine, but what about WVO in one of these torpedo heaters?

Diesel just stinks and causes soot in the above mentioned heaters... Otherwise it is safe.

I picked up a kerosene heater from a yard sale. The guy said it did not work.
It was over $300.00 new and heats 1200 sq.ft.

I paid 10 bucks. Found the problem in the adjustment lever and as long as I latch it in place manually, it works awesome. I am thinking about trying this but WVO would be gelled everytime I try to heat up the area. I wonder if I cut the WVO with a percentage of kerosene if it would work like an anti gel?

I can boil water on top of this thing...its set up to cook on top on a stainless rack. If I forget to turn it down to almost off within 1/2 hr...its scorching hot in that area. I got it as a back up in case of a power failure for the house.

I just bought a 170K BTU bullet heater off of Ebay and it says that it can run multifuel ie:Kerosene,#1 #2 Diesel,Jet fuel & heating oil. the price was pretty cheap less than $300. this should keep my 30'X60' garage warm until i get electric and heat insatlled.

Found this over at the greasecar forums. I had a similar idea for heating the shed I'll be filtering/storing my waste veg oil in, but it's kind of small so I wanted to try and blend WVO with the kerosene 75/25 to try to keep from choking myself. Here's the link.

What are your plans for permanent heat? My brother in law has a 30X50X14' (insluated) that he heats pretty well with a barrel stove. He has a nice food grade SS barrel and it heats the shop nice and even once it gets going.

Just wondering.

I've never had a home or shop with a alternate heat source, but we are moving in February to a house with oil heat and a nice little wood stove in the family room.
