assuming your buddy is giving you a deal on the labor.... parts cost listed so far for your entire list of repairs is still pretty low.
can't fault logic of getting another low mileage 12v... but you would be starting from scratch again. most of the maintenance items mentioned will need to be done again depending upon mileage.
ball joints on some of older 12v came with grease zerts. if they've been kept filled with grease. they go next to forever.
ALL bearings unless bathed in oil, will need maintenance. for instance, wheel bearings, carrier bearings and ujoints all have roller bearings that ride on grease. if not provided with a way to inject new grease. they all will need to be replaced and/or serviced after XXX number of miles.
by the way this goes for ALL other spinning bearings... for instance your AC compressor idler bearing, alternator bearings, water pump bearing are all spinning, anytime motor is running.

OK, this truck has been very good to me for the 2 years I've owned it.
Recdently, it seems I'm in the shop weekly for Trackbar, ball joints, u joints, 5th gear nut, pinion bearing, brakes, axle seal...
Now my axle seal on the rearend is blown and I need new brakes now.
Other than that, theres a few minor things...
Why should I keep an 11 year old truck?
Other than the engine - is it worth fixing this thing all the time?

Today I did new rear drums, brakes, cylinders and seals.
All thats left are the drivers side u-joints and wheel bearings whenever that happens. The race looked good on my passenger side so I packed it full of grease and was done with it.
Also, my yearly trackbar.
Was kind of bent out of shape yesterday when I saw gear dope all over my rear tire leaking out of the drum.
