My Personal Recipe

At work:
I use Firefox for a browser with NoScript and AdBlock Plus running. For Noscript, being a little intelligent about not turning things on is required. There are some sites that I give up on trying to get everything to load.

We run Microsoft Security Essentials also. No major issues.
Secunia is awesome for keeping things updated.

At Home:
My laptop is not connected to the internet. Ever. Stuff I bring in on a usb stick is run within an isolator called Sandboxie (sp?)

When fixing other machines:
Start with mbam, then combofix (dangerous in untrained hands).

For the user that can't seem to make room on his machine, look for a small program called winderstat. It will show you where your space is going.

Spent 4 hours this morning running AVG tune-up and Malwarebytes. Freed up almost 8 gig after the 2 downloads. Guess uninstalling Firefox and a few other things didn't delete them like they are supposed to.

CCleaner (free) is also good for junk removal and registry cleaning. It's also good to defragment on a regular basis as well. I use Defraggler and CCleaner by Piroform.

My regular Windows defragger said that the hard drive was good, but the AVG tune-up took almost an hour to defrag it.

The Windows Defragmenter is very weak in my opinion. You can set up Defraggler or one of your choice to run overnight when you aren't using the computer.

I was at it so I just went ahead and did everything at once. I downloaded pale moon the other day and uninstaled firefox, and this morning I got a "very low memory" warning. Malwarebytes also found a couple bugs to delete. That scan took nearly 40 minutes.

I kind of miss the old defrag program that gave you a visual representation of little blocks as it shuffled data around to the different sectors.
I really felt like I was accomplishing something.
I could sit at the computer drinking beer, point at the moving blocks and tell the wife "Cant shovel snow now Im defragging the disk".

And I thought that I was the only one that did that.
