Jasper - Alberta, Canada (Fishing)

I have a friend that will be traveling to Jasper the first week in August for vacation. He will be flying from Waco, TX to Calgary and then driving to Jasper. I told him that some of the friendly Canadian DTR members could probably help him out.

He was wanting to know about the fishing in and around the Jasper area. He said he would like to find a good place to rent a rod/reel and do some fishing while he is there (no fly fishing).

- What would he need to do about a license (for 3 days)?
- Where are some good lakes, rivers, etc, to fish?
- Also, any other places of interest or restuarants that you could recommend would be appreciated.

Re:Jasper - Alberta, Canada (Fishing)

I was just up in Jasper about 2 weeks ago working at the Power generation station for the town.

Really nice town, its a little busy now with bus tours and RV's but you are taken aback by the view. I have a few pics of the area.

There are some nice restaurants downtown, Italian "Miss Italia" there is "Earls", a high end steak house that escapes me right now and whole bunch of others in the hotels and the like..

They have a fishing shop, well more than one in town that do tours and provide guide and gear. Now the ones I saw were fly tours, but I would think they would accommodate any fishing style. I have to look up some of these things in my accomodation guide for the area.

There are numerous hotels, they do have their summer rates in effect however so they average about $180 a nite CAD.

I will dig into my memory files and find some more info for ya.

J-eh

We used to go to Jasper all the time to fish when I was little. My uncle quit going a few years ago because the fishing is terrible he says. If he is going to Calgary, he must fish the Bow River, or the high mountain Kananaskis lakes. The Bow River runs From Banff through Calgary. He'll probably be going through Banff to get to Jasper.

Mike
