Insurance Rates
Alright guys, i'm looking at a 05 2500 SC,LWB, SLT. I went to progessive and got a quoate of 368 a month for the bottom of the line coverage. The recommended coverage is 958 a month. Do these numbers sound right for an 18yr old? The thing is, my insurance right now is under my dad, so is my car. But if I buy a truck and put it in my name I will have to pay the insurance at my rate. But if I get my dad to co-sign I can use his insurance but then I wont be building up any credit? What do you guys think? Anyone know a cheap insurance company? If it's that high I probably wont be able to afford a truck.

Holy shiznit!!! my house payment isnt that much. If its credit you want get a credit card and start using it and paying like a good consumer. The cost of establishing credit can be pricy especially when trying to reestasblish from a hardship. thats a big price to pay for you. Try GMAC in co, 21 century, gieco. Just make sure who ever it is can give you a actual location of an office for claims etc and check their rating. If found there to be plenty of less than stellar agencies.

Sounds about right; especially for rebels without a cause. "Cheep" insurance companies are great - until you bang the vehicle up a little and need the ins company to fess up some bucks; then you learn a pointed lesson in reading the fine print......
I don't know what your income is right now, but I certainly don't think its a good idea for someone without a lot of discretionary income to spend it on a set of brand new wheels like that. There are much more important things you could be focusing on right now; establishing good credit history for yourself is high on the list - without being broke.
I know, I know ...... Don't be upset, I've heard it before - my boys are 17 and 19.....

I'm paying 1173 every 6 months for my insurance. I was at about 700 a month but once I moved up to Rhode Island it went way up, kinda like insurance in Jersey. I'm 22 (23 soon) and single, all that, so yeah it cost me a lot. The sad part is I'm paying 600 dollars less than I was for a 03 chevy S-10, with a 4 cylinder?? go figure they said it was sporty, like a 3000lb truck would cause more damage than this thing? Yeah being young is tough affording a new Vehicle, but when you average in cost, fuel, this, that, you come out ahead. So yeah that's what I'm paying. Also a lot has to due with where you live, that can play a big cost.

my insurance is over 700 every six months. the part of the rate that bothers me is in Michigan they have a catostropic medical insurance coverage included that is a large percentage of the rate.
i think that it is ok to pay on one vehicle, but in my case i have three vehicles insured and have to pay this medical fee three times. i can only drive one of the vehicles at a time?

I say that you stay on your dads insurance and build your credit by getting a credit card from your bank. Make all of your small purchases on it and pay it off every month. I have my insurance through AAA I was paying $800 per YEAR for liability on 4 trucks. I don't need comp, collision etc. I just keep uninsured/underinsured and liability.

Wife is 32 and I am 35. We pay about $1300 a year for my truck and her RX-300.
I would find a different quote. (I don't know your financial situation and it is not my business, but I would seriously consider Bulabula's advice).
Good Luck,
~Rob

I believe if YOU take the loan and your dad co-signs, it still goes on your credit report.
Eventually, though, you're going to have to come off your dad's policy and then they'll nail you. Can you afford for your "monthly payment" to go up by $1000/month??
I know TX insurance is high - mine tripled when I moved from WA to TX - but that's highway robbery!!

I recieved an add in the mail the other day from Dodge for Auto Insurance. I have never hear of them doing auto insurance, but I got the typical "since I bought a dodge truck etc" line they can give me cheap insurance. Anyone know anything about using Dodge as an auto insurance provider?
