Increasing gas mileage

I recently ran into a BMW engineer. We exchanged some interesting conversation. He stated that if you add straight acetone to your gas operated vehicles, this would greatly increase mileage. Ten gallons of gas to two ounces of acetone is the ratio. He was very adamant about it in his heavy German accent. Any opinions out there.

It works for gasoline-- not so much for diesel.
