Question Ignition Keys

My Wife called me last night from her work. My 2001 PT-Cruiser will not keep running. It starts & then dies.
I go to pick her up, she hands me her spare key. I try the car & it starts & dies, I try again & all electric gurages & everything is dead. I pulled out my Origanal key that came with the car, Tryed it & the car works fine. Try spare key again & same results.
Question is..... Does my 2001 Ram have the same (Anti-Theft??)
built into it?

Maybe I should read the owners manual!!!

My 2001 works just fine on the spare key I had made for it. I use it every morning when I go out to warm it up. Then I don't have to take my house key off the keychain

Both copies I made of mine, the wifes and a spare for lock out, work just fine.

Depending on the security options I know my mini-van and my bro-in-laws Durango will do the same thing.

The original key or one from DC is required as it has a chip built into the key. If the key is not within about 8" of the column, the security system will disable the vehicle. I cannot use any aftermarket key for my van, it has to be from DC and is about $80 per.

I don't think this sentry security is an option on the Ram truck lines.

On mine I bought one of those key rings with the quick detach and 2 rings then I keep the truck key on one end and the rest including the key fob on the other. When I start the truck or leave it run I can get out and use the Fob to lock and un-lock the doors.

I think the Sentry key and security package is standard on the Laramie package in the States - mine's got it.
