If this doesn't prove that I have way too much time on my hands.....
After tiring of buying sub-par lawn sprinklers I decided to make my own. I had fully planed to put a sprinkler system in at my house this spring but as most of you know I am lazy and never I got around to it. So I did the next best thing. I made my own lawn sprinkler. As the pictures below show the water comes in and fills up the “legs” and weighs down the entire sprinkler. This in turn makes for a very stable platform for the sprinkler head. I bought a regular gear driven sprinkler head and mounted it on top and it will shoot out a stream around 40’ with 35PSI. I fabricated 2 of these and I have it set up where I only have to move them 3 times to water my whole yard.
Feel free to use the design as I have always been into open sourced ideas.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
My neighbor built something similar one time, except he used a series of spray type heads on a longer set of pipes. It looked kind of like this...with the lines being pipe and the X being little sprinkler heads.

It worked particularly well on the sides of his house where most sprinklers don't really fit the the long and skinny shape of the side yard very well. The hose just attached to the end.
I plan to install a full sprinkler system. I HATE getting out and moving sprinklers around.

back when my parents had their little farm/ranch opperation we built quite a few sprinklers for a couple lots we used to irrigate for hay. most of what we built for irrigation use were about ~5' tall with an H base made out of pipe. hose attached to one of the "arms" and filled the base. then had a T fitting right in the center strut and rose up and just had a simple wobbler head on it. we made a few for the yard that were much shorter. worked great, and very cheap. those got us through alot of dry times.
