The new Dream Theater cd is AWESOME. Systematic Chaos is the name of it, and if you are interested in extremely talented musicians, you should DEFINITELY check this cd out!

My neighbor who plays drums in a local band is really into music and raves about those guys all the time. Specifically about their musicianship and how "tight" they sound. I will have to check it out.

I've been out of the loop since their third album. I have about four CD's of theirs I need to buy. I used to love all their stuff, even when the were called Majesty. I got into Liquid Tension Expirement and a couple other of their side projects too. They friggin rock!

And too boot I met Mike Portnoy in person about 10 years ago (back when he had his big poofy hair!) at a small drum clinic! All of about 50 people were there and we got to hang out with him for a while. However, those guys can drink!

Keep on rockin! I may have to stop and pickup all their cd's Im missing.

Have a good one.

They used to be one of my favorite bands, but lately I've gotten kind of bored of their music. Their songwriting as of late has kind of been a disappointment (some of Systematic Chaos is amazing though). I can't say I'm a big fan of Rudess' and what his song writing has brought to the band.

Dream Theater IMO created a genre of music that includes only one band-- themselves.

Their "tightness" is phenomenal-- they could play anyone else's song and probably sound better doing it. Heck, I bet they could play country well!

(but not better than our boy Brad P-- the best guitarist alive in the country genre, imo)

**NO affiliation with DreamTheater**

I'm a drummer, and I'm a HUGE Mike Portnoy fan. I try to bring some progressive elements to our stuff but I don't think I'll ever get to the point Portnoy is at.

It is a pretty good CD. The thing about all these guys is that there probably the top 10 in all their respective instruments and they make it look so easy. especially Portnoy. He's got a new drum dvd (in constant motion) with so really good footage on it. If you don't have get. Well worth the money. I just don't like DT's singer. Kinda got a thru the nose sound. Oh well. Great band though. Neil Peart still the man though

Musically they are awesome. The singer sounds too much like a commercial 80's hair band guy with a flair for opera.

yeah my band is writing an instrumental that is great. I finally get to throw some progressive stuff in, I'll record a rough version some other time and post it. Tonight we got the idea for it and by the end of the night we had it to 15 min of pure jamming...not bad for a bunch of high school kids eh?
