I-70 - from the 15 to Grand Junction

Just got back from a 3000 mile trip to Vegas and then to Denver (from TX). One of the routes I too was I-15 N to I-70 E. The I-70 portion in Utah is probably one of the BEST LOOKING PLACES ON EARTH. I am a sucker for nature and the rock formations are absolutely breathe taking.

Its amazing that whoever built those highways planned it out strategically due to the drastic elevation changes. I wish I took pictures to share with you for those who havent gone. For those of who have, its AMAZING AINT IT!!

It’s not near as nice if your pulling a 45’ trailer with GVW of 80000 and no Jake brake. Especially coming out of Eisenhower tunnel where there was only one small sign that read “hill”. Yea right HILL all the way to Denver.
I only had to run that way one time and made no time. Up hill in 2nd or 3rd on a 13 speed and downhill the same way. Its funny now but at the time.........well I will just say that it was a learning experience.

But then again if I was on vacation I would make an effort to go trough there and see the sights.

The approximate weight on my truck, trailer was roughly 10-10.5K lbs. I notice that not alot of "big trucks" cruise the 70 because of the elevation changes. I also notice 40 is a heavy traffic route for yall "big trucks"

That is one of my favorite areas. It is even more beautiful if you get off the highway just a little bit. Area is packed full of nice canyons, pictographs and ruins. You know it is going to be steep when the posted speed limit coming down the San Rafeal Reef on I-70 just west of Green River is 45mph for all vehicles.

If you are talking about highway 24 over to Loa then on to 12 to Boulder, Escalante, Bryce and onward to 89 and south that is some eyeball bustin scenery. Hwy 12 is one of my favorite highways for scenery. Never seen anything like it anywhere else and the slot canyon hiking in the Escalante area is great.

Last time I was out there I took the "Lost Mountain Road" from down in Az. north to Escalante. Nuttin but a two track dirt road most of the ways, dodging cattle and winding through canyons and pine forest.............LOVED IT!
