Hey guys, so I started to work on a project and I picked up a old beckett burner with a honey well primary control box. Fabricated most of it and fired it off last night. When I plugged in the 110V to the primary control there is a small hum (can't really notice it unless you put your ear to it). I don't know if this is normal. I closed the contacts on the burner (T,T) and the transformer fired the electrodes and the blower kicked on. I'm assuming this is normal operation? I just don't want it to catch fire as this is going to be my new shop heater.

It's going to be running on used motor oil and waste oil. I can post pictures of the project if I get it working.

Thanks!

I think the humming you are hearing is the transformer as it is always powered. Please take some pics and post them, I have been thinking about putting something similar in my dad's shop, but new one's are a little cost prohibitive

This is what the control looks like and the humming is coming out off. Exactly the same primary control box I have;

Yeah I will take some pictures. I just picked up the burner last night and making sure it works. I have a lot of wiring to do as I want to hook a thermostat to it. The other side is pre-heating the oil and what not. So far I have about 160$ into the project. I'm thinking it's going to top out around 300$.

If you buy a burner off criagslist they're about 50$ so give or take. Hell you can buy used oil furnaces for 100$ so it's worth it!

yup, same advice, normal operation. solid set up- just check your blow back (clean the orifices) from any used unit.
