About 14 years ago I had a '68 Baja Bug with a 1776cc, dual Webers and a light flywheel.
The stock tranny lasted about 3 minutes.
The rebuilt tranny had close ratio gears, with a "Beefy Diff", and you had to shift it like a 2-stroke dirt bike.
I off'ed quite a few "Pony Cars" in the Falls Church area.

I have a 69' with a 2176cc dual Dellorto 45mm's. I built it when I was in the service and ended up driving it a few years when in college. I had no choice but to leave the car at a friends house due to no parking room at my appartment. The paint went to crap and I have some rust issue. I had tears in my eyes when I went and picked it up and trailored it back home. I had heart and sole into that build and I look at it now and feel sick. Nothing on the thing was stock...LOL
