that thing has more plastic than the Playboys Mansion Lego room.
my Dad wants to put one in, i don't think he realizes how many idiots are on "children's band" (as the HAM's call it)
he doesn't want to cut/modify if possible.

He needs to get an antenna that is made for use with no ground plane. They make them for boats, motorhomes, etc. that are made of fiberglass. He won't like the way a regular antenna works without a good ground plane.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Had another thought about this. Many folks hesitate to drill a hole in the roof of their vehicle, but it really is not problem. I presume the roof is metal so that becomes the groundplane. Have done this on many vehicles and when I sell/trade the vehicle I just stick one of those chrome plugs in the hole. Seal around the hole first and it never leaks. If you want it to look a bit less obvious, then paint the plug first.
If you drill a hole in non-metalic part, if the underside is accessable, glue in something metallic, even aluminim foil, the large the better and make sure the antenna is grounded to that.
BTW, CB to my fellow hams at the time was "Chicken Bander" 'cuz they were too chicken to get their ham licence.

Stan, that is what he is saying - - - plastic. No metal.
You could always use the "thru the glass" antenna on the rear glass. It is not as good and there is a loss in the transfer. I use one on my truck - - it is OK, but I don't necessarily want to reach 50 miles down the road anyway.

forgot to mention - he's wound a bit tight,
he keeps his little toy in the garage (why he won't buy a real truck)
so he can't have one on the roof.
I think Fiver is right, work for him within decent range, no hole in truck, fit in garage,
all good.
i knew someone on here would know what to do.
tks guys, off to e-bay ----->
