help me figure this out!

I got my 99 dodge ram 7 months ago. It had 100,000 when i got it. The dealer man told me it was a clean title. I was thinking about getting another vehicle today and go this other dealer to get a trade in value on my truck. He came out and told me my truck was lemoned titled in 2000. He would only give me 4,800 for it. You gota be kiddin me here i told him. I was ****** off by this time and went to the original dealer who sold it to me. These guys said a lemon title means nothing and would give me far value back because i still was thinking about going to another vehicle. He come back and says he will give me 8,400 for it as trade in. I know it retails for about 12,000 to sell outright. He would not work with me any more on that price. I owe a little more that the 8,400, but come on, they want to rip me off big time.

What should I do guys. The dealer did not inform me it was lemoned and stated it was a clean title. I live in PA and does any one know some advice on how i can get some money back or what?

I am not sure about any info on lemon laws but it probably would hurt to call around and check. I recently sold my 99' ford f-350 4x4 6spd south bend clutch, ball bearing turbo, edge juice, all the goodies you know. I went to the dealer to see about trading it in on a dodge they had. They offered me $7500 trade in, I told them to kiss my "rear end" and walked out the door. I decided to try and put the truck on ebay and sold it for $14000 which is what I bought it for over a year ago with 35k less miles on it. I recommend that route becuase dealers dont give you crap for your truck and you can really get exposure on the internet just make sure you set a high price on it because you can probably get more out of it than you think, if its the truck in your sig I looked at one with a very similar descripton to that with 119k miles on it and they wanted $15000 for it and had sold it before I even had chance to call them. I had probably 20-30 emails and phone calls that week I listed mine and ended up selling it to a guy who lived over 11 hours away. Just something you could look into, good luck selling your truck

As far as what they offer for trade, you will not get retail. It might be worth 12k on the open market but dealers don't pay that. Walk away for now and get your ducks in a row. You can contact the attorney general's office in your state and ask there to start. Make sure you have a pen and paper handy, be calm and articulate. Explain how you purchased a vehicle with what was supposed to have a clean title only to later find out that it isn't. Because the title is showing up as being lemoned, you are having difficulty trading the vehicle and you feel like the title status should have been disclosed to you before the sale.

I agree with Totallyrad. I didn't even know they had Lemon Titles....

Anyway, dealer trade in value is a lot less than market value, selling to an individual will bring much more money.
Try many Classifieds, Ebay, this forum, etc. but you will have to disclose the title (if in fact there's a lemon title) since you know of it now, or you might have to face consequences later.

A simple Carfax for 4 10.00 will give you some info on this title since it's the VIN that is marked somehow.

I do understand that trade in value is a lot lower. But what bleeped me off was how I was lied to me. I did contact the attorney general's office and he stated that they had to disclose it was a buyback car when they sold it to me. He said i can file the compliant because i have a case. I don't know how long it will take, but it is not costing me a thing to pursue it. They might have to buy it back off me at full price what i paid for it 6 months ago. That could help get my next vehicle. I was ****** I couldn't get the vehicle i wanted because they wanted to only give me 4800 because the car fax report stated that. The title is normal, it was brought that it was buyback in 2000.

Sounds like you are on the right track. Like the other guys indicated, don’t get in a hurry and play it cool. Wonder what the dealer would say if you asked them "when would it be convenient to be interviewed by the Consumer Editor from KDKA news"?

That would be great! I called them back that night and told them the law and he said I can not do a thing to them because he didn't know it was a buyback when he sold it. Thats funny, they have a sign up on the door that says we do carfax reports!

It's time to play ball.

Your being lied to do you really think they would take a trade without running a carfax on it.Car dealers are sharks there not stupid. The reason you know now it was a lemmon is because this dealer ran the vin. There are laws in place to stop this kind of thing. Don't get in a hurry, write down all dates and times when you talk to them on the phone or in person. Get the attorney general involved. You should end up with everything you paid for the truck.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. As a rule, your local BBB (better business bureau) www.bbb.org is not very helpful but they can sometimes tell you if any other similar complaints have been made against a company. Also, I was bored and typed in "selling a lemon law vehicle PA" and came up with a bunch of sites (most have lawyer links) but were interesting.

I see in a previous post that you already contacted them again. This is going to sound a little harsh but you need to reel in you testosterone and quit calling them. They know they're wrong and most likely did at the time they sold you the truck. If you're going to give them a copy of every play in your playbook you will lose the game. Do not call the TV stations, yet. Do not call the BBB until you have finished with the AG's office and have your complaint is resolved. If you have a win in your corner at that time you can provide a copy of the paperwork to back up what you say, not to mention the AG will have a file on them now. The only other time I would step foot on their property is to go by after they close and take a picture of the Carfax sign you mentioned earlier. As Sean Connery said in The Untouchables, here ends the lesson. Good luck.
